Girls' tennis

Spring Creek 6, Rosewood 3

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek improved to 3-1 on the season with a 6-3 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Rosewood on Tuesday afternoon.

Emily Daniel, Katlyn Casey, Colleen Finlay, Quatisha Lanier and Anna Haggerty all recorded singles wins for the Gators. The doubles team of Jordan Cook-Brittany Carmack also earned a victory for Spring Creek.

Victoria Holzkamm tallied Rosewood's lone singles point. The doubles teams of Marieke Parrish-Elise McSwain and Janasia Haynes-Abigale Godwin also prevailed.

The Eagles (1-4 overall) travel to Ayden-Grifton on Thursday. Spring Creek visits Goldsboro on Tuesday.

C.B. Aycock 9, North Lenoir 0

* LaGRANGE -- Katie Gurley, Harlie Howard, Brittany Parrish, Caroline Bone, Tiffany Godwin and Brooke Butts all supplied singles victories in the Golden Falcons' win at Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir.

The doubles teams of Gurley-Kimber Pender, Howard-Misty Edwards and Rachel Jackson-Tara Simmons were also winners.

Aycock (7-6 overall, 5-1 ECC) entertains non-conference foe Rocky Mount today.

Grace Christian 6, Wayne Christian 3

* RALEIGH -- Faith Sutton and Reagan Hinton both collected singles victories for Wayne Christian, which suffered its first loss of the season overall and in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play.

The doubles team of Brooke Barfield-Sutton was also victorious.

The Eagles visit Wayne Country Day on Thursday.

Tarboro 6, Greene Central 3

* TARBORO -- Fourth-ranked Tarboro won four of six singles matches en route to a 6-3, Eastern Plains 2-A Conference victory over second-ranked Greene Central.

Lauren Carraway and Jessica Hatch both earned singles wins for the Rams. The doubles team of Carraway-Hatch also prevailed.

The loss was just Greene Central's second in EPC play since 1993. The other defeat was also to Tarboro in 2006.

"This was a great high school tennis match," said Rams' head coach Donald Clark. "In the end we just couldn't win the big points. I have to take my hat off to Tarboro. They played well on the pressure points and deserved to win. They certainly have one of the top teams in the state."

The Rams (10-7 overall, 5-1 EPC) entertain Kinston on Thursday.

J.H. Rose 8, Eastern Wayne 1

* Jackie Johnson recorded the Warriors' lone victory at No. 8 singles on Monday afternoon.

Volleyball

Princeton 3, Goldsboro 0

* PRINCETON -- Linda Smith distributed 35 assists to go with seven service aces and three digs in Princeton's 25-12, 25-17, 25-7 Carolina 1-A Conference victory over Goldsboro on Tuesday.

Nicole Melvin provided 11 kills and Traci Bridgers finished with 10 kills. Hanna Woodard added nine kills and Jenna Aycock had five kills.

Yusely Lares tallied four kills for the Cougars. Anastazja Harris and Sterling Simmons both added five blocks.

The Bulldogs (8-5 overall, 3-0 CC) visit Ayden-Grifton on Thursday. Goldsboro (1-10, 0-3) travels to Spring Creek on Thursday.

North Duplin 3, Ayden-Grifton 2

* CALYPSO -- Junior middle hitter Tearra Simmons turned in 16 kills, eight blocks and three digs to lead North Duplin to a 25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 23-25, 15-11 victory over Ayden-Grifton in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday.

Hannah Brock supplied 25 assists and eight aces. Scarlett Martin added nine kills and three digs. Skylar McCarty had four kills and three aces. Alonna Pate chipped in four aces.

The Rebels (5-6 overall, 2-1 CC) visit Rosewood on Thursday.

Grace Christian 3, Wayne Christian

* RALEIGH -- Grace Christian remained unbeaten in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play with a 21-25, 16-25, 25-15, 25-17, 15-12 comeback victory over Wayne Christian on Tuesday afternoon.

Britney O'Hara led Wayne Christian with 16 kills. Katie Isenhower distributed 25 assists. Haley Greenwood recorded 21 digs and seven aces. Jessica Swets and Rachel McCollum both collected 11 digs.

Summer Brathwaite added nine kills.

The Eagles (6-7 overall, 6-3 CCC) travel to Cresset Christian on Friday.

North Lenoir 3, Eastern Wayne 1

* North Lenoir defeated Eastern Wayne in 25-15, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17 Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Lura Hulse finished with six kills and two blocks for the Warriors. Morgan Smith tallied four kills and three digs.

Eastern Wayne (3-11 overall, 1-5 ECC) plays host to South Johnston on Thursday.

Bethel Christian 3, Faith Christian 1

* Christina Powell delivered eight assists and three aces for Faith in its N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A contest.

Taylor Downey contributed four digs and three kills and Elizabethe Weeks supplied two digs, two aces, a block and a kill.

The Conquerors (1-7 overall) host Liberty Christian of Durham on Thursday.

Wayne Country Day 3, Trinity Christian 0

* FAYETTEVILLE -- Kim Martell collected 13 kills, five digs and three aces for Wayne Country Day on Tuesday afternoon.

Sterling Coggins distributed seven assists. Hannah Pearson had five aces, five kills, three digs and three assists. Jessica Zhou supplied six digs and Sarah Crooks had five aces and two digs.

The Chargers (11-2 overall) play host to Greenfield on Thursday.

Boys' soccer

Faith Christian 3, Bethel Christian 1

* Michael Clarke scored his first and second goals of the season in Faith Christian's 3-1, comeback victory over visiting N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal Region 2-A Conference foe Bethel Christian on Tuesday afternoon.

Carrington Simmons' goal in the 20th minute gave Bethel a 1-0 lead. Clarke tied the game at 1-1 in the 30th minute. Clarke's goal in the 65th minute gave the Conquerors the lead for good.

Silas Denlinger added a goal in the 70th minute.

Faith (4-3-1 overall) entertains non-conference opponent Liberty Christian Academy of Durham on Thursday.

Trinity Christian 2, Wayne Christian 1

* RALEIGH -- Wayne Christian suffered its first Carolina Christian 1-A Conference loss of the season in a 2-1 setback at Grace Christian on Tuesday.

Jordan Crouthamel scored the Eagles' lone goal.

Chase King collected eight saves in goal.

Wayne Christian had the potential tying goal waived off on an offsides call. The Eagles (9-5 overall, 7-1 CCC) entertain Northwood on Sept. 28.

Cross country

Eagles best competition

* Connor Jones finished as the top male runner, and helped Wayne Christian claim the boys' portion of a four-team meet at Waynesborough Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Jones crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 34 seconds. The Eagles' Spencer Foster came home fourth in 22:17 and Mark Sawyer (22:30) was fifth. Ben Sawyer finished in seventh place, Will Garner was eighth and Will Massey was 12th.

Wayne Christian compiled 25 team points to finish ahead of Epiphany's 48 points. Wayne Country earned an 83 and Faith Christian of Rocky Mount did not have a team score.

Wayne Country Day's Lisa Peacock finished fifth on the girls' side. Sarah Allen was Wayne Christian's top female finisher in seventh place. Neither the Chargers or Eagles recorded a team score.

Wayne Christian travels to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Golf

Walnut Creek LGA

* Nancy Satterfield claimed play of the day.

Faye Franklin earned low gross for first flight and Charlotte Campbell seized low net. Linda Cannon captured low gross for second flight and Betty Holloway earned low net.

Evelyn Rose finished with low putts for the field.

JV sports

* Soccer: Faith Christian-Rocky Mount 5, Wayne Country Day 0: The Chargers visit Ridgecroft on Sept. 28.

* Volleyball: Ayden-Grifton d. North Duplin 26-24, 18-25, 25-20: Jessica Jones recorded eight kills and two aces for the Rebels (5-6 overall, 1-2 CC). Lyndsie Harrell had four aces and two kills. Ansley Hill dished out eight assists and two aces. Mia Owens provided four aces and two kills.
