Volleyball

Wayne Country Day 3, Goldsboro 0

* Wayne Country Day completed a non-conference season sweep of Goldsboro with a 25-21, 25-12, 25-16 victory on Thursday.

Kim Martell pounded out 14 kills for the Chargers with four digs and two aces. Hannah Pearson added 10 kills and four ages. Jessica Zhou had 10 digs and Sterling Coggins distributed nine assists.

WCDS improved to 3-1 overall.

Oakwood 3,

Wayne Christian 1

* Wayne Christian suffered a 25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15 home loss to Oakwood on Thursday. Britney O'Hara paced the Eagles with 21 digs, 11 kills and three aces. Haley Greenwood provided 23 digs and three aces. Katie Isenhower supplied 21 assists and four aces.

Wayne Christian (2-4 overall) entertains Trinity-Raleigh today.

Cornerstone 3,

Faith Christian 0

* FAYETTEVILLE -- Charity Spencer recorded nine digs for the Conquerors and Taylor Downey had five digs, two blocks and two aces. Abigail Pierce tallied four digs and two blocks and Christina Powell added four aces and two assists.

Soccer

Faith Christian 2, Cornerstone 1, OT

* FAYETTEVILLE -- The Conquerors trailed 1-0 at halftime before Silas Denlinger's second goal of the season in the 70th minute tied the game.

Trent Wise scored the game-winner in the 97th minute. It was Wise's third goal of the season. Denlinger finished with eight saves.

Faith (2-0-1 overall) visits Trinity Christian-Greenville today.

North Lenoir 3, Goldsboro 2

* Jeffrey Martinez got the Cougars on the scoreboard in the 35th minute off Bryan Johnson's assist. Alan Odom scored for Goldsboro in the 70th minute. The Cougars outshot the Hawks 21-7.

Trinity of Durham 5,

Wayne Country Day 2

* Wayne Country Day couldn't hold on to a 2-1 halftime lead. Tyson Pearson gave the Chargers a 1-0 advantage with a goal in the 10th minute. Trent Priomos scored off Pearson's assist in the 36th minute.

Trinity scored all four of its second half goals in the final 15 minutes of the game.

Wayne Country Day (4-4 overall) entertains Flora MacDonald on Tuesday.

Cross country

Eagles' boys finish first

* WILSON -- Wayne Christian's Connor Jones was the top male runner as the Eagles' boys finished first among five teams in a meet on Thursday at Wilson Gillette Park.

Jones crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 45 seconds. Teammate Mark Sawyer was seventh and Will Massey was 10th. Spencer Foster finished in 11th place and Ben Sawyer was 12th.

Wayne Christian compiled 29 points to finish in first place ahead of Wake Christian's 39 points. Raleigh Christian recorded 41 points and Wilson Christian (52) and Grace Christian (59) rounded out the team scored.

Sarah Allen was the Eagles' top female runner with a time of 28:53, good enough for fifth place. Christian Foster and Kayla Kennedy came home in 25th and 38th place respectively.

Wayne Christian did not record a girls' team score.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday at Waynesborough Park.

Tennis

Greene Central 9,

SouthWest Edgecombe 0

* PINETOPS -- Lauren Carraway, Jessica Hatch, Hayes Lovett, Brittany Collie, Laurie Sutton and Kayla Sutton all prevailed in singles play for the Rams. The doubles teams of Carraway-Hatch, Lovett-Colie and Sutton-Radford were also winner.

The Rams (6-4 overall, 3-0 Eastern Plains 2-A) entertain Farmville Central on Tuesday.

JV sports

* Volleyball: Wayne Country Day d. Goldsboro 25-19, 19-25, 25-23 -- Sarah Crooks paced the Chargers with 11 service aces and two kills. Gracie Gurley added four aces.
