Girls' tennis

Southern Wayne 5, W. Country Day 4

* Southern Wayne captured two points in doubles play and held off Wayne Country Day on Monday afternoon.

Taylor Parker, Michala Best and Taylor Davis each earned a singles victory for the Saints.

Mack Thompson, Sarah Best and Mollie Catherine McDonald each won for the Chargers.

The match was decided in doubles play when the duo of Molliane Kennedy-Davis clinched the match with an 8-2 victory for the Saints. The tandem of Best-Parker also prevailed for Southern Wayne.

Thompson-Best claimed the Chargers lone doubles point.

Wayne Country Day (1-1 overall) travels to Faith of Rocky Mount today. Southern Wayne (1-2) is the guest of Cleveland High School today.

Parrott Academy 7, Greene Central 2

* KINSTON -- Parrot Academy swept through doubles play en route to a 7-2, non-conference win over Greene Central on Monday afternoon.

The Rams claimed two singles points -- one apiece from Hayes Lovett and Brittany Colie.

"This was another learning experience for a young team," said Greene Central head coach Donald Clark. "I hope our girls continue to get better as we play some of these outstanding teams."

Greene Central (4-4 overall) visits Kinston today.

Volleyball

Rosewood 3, Cleveland 0

* Rosewood showed no mercy on newly-opened Cleveland High School in a 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 win on Monday afternoon.

Ellen Morgan led the Eagles with eight kills and three blocks. Megann Tyndall tallied nine digs and Alyssa Spell dished out seven assists.

Rosewood (5-1 overall) entertains Southern Wayne today.

North Duplin 3, James Kenan 0

* WARSAW -- North Duplin recorded its second win in as many weeks over James Kenan with a 25-14, 25-12, 25-5 victory on Monday.

Tearra Ammons led the Rebels with eight kills and two blocks. Angelica Favela tallied eight aces and Hannah Brock recorded 16 assists.

North Duplin (3-3 overall) will play host to Lakewood on Wednesday.

Greene Central 3, Spring Creek 0

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Greene Central jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 25-12, 25-22, 25-13 victory over Spring Creek on Monday.

Peri Dail led the Rams with six kills and one block. Kaitlyn Napier added five kills and three blocks while teammate Curtney Phillips dished out 14 assists.

Kelsey Rogers led the Gators with three kills.

Greene Central (3-4 overall) visits Farmville Central today. Spring Creek (1-3) will have an extended break until Sept. 14 when Princeton pays a visit to Seven Springs.

Hobbton 3, Goldsboro 0

* Brandy Johnson led the Cougars with eight kills, but it was not enough to defeat Hobbton on Monday night.

Sterling Simmons added five kills in the defeat.

Goldsboro (1-5 overall) travels to Wayne Country Day on Thursday.

Croatan 3, Eastern Wayne 0

* Eastern Wayne narrowly lost the first set and went on to fall 25-23, 25-14, 25-16 to Croatan on Monday afternoon.

Shontae Boseman led the Warriors with five kills. Laura Hulse added three kills and three blocks. Sydney Potter finished with five assists.

Eastern Wayne (1-5 overall) opens Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play today at South Johnston.

Cape Fear Christian 3, W. Country Day 0

* Cape Fear Christian raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 over Wayne Country Day on Monday.

The Chargers welcome Goldsboro on Thursday.

Boys' soccer

W. Country Day 5, Cape Fear Christian 1

* Cody Neal delivered a pair of goals and an assist as Wayne Country Day cruised past Cape Fear Christian on Monday afternoon.

Hil Tanner scored two goals in the victory and Tyson Pearson capped the scoring with one goal. Jack Langston finished with one assist.

Wayne Country Day (3-3-0 overall) travels to Goldsboro on Wednesday.

Corinth Holders 4, Goldsboro 0

* ZEBULON -- Goldsboro never got its offense going during a 4-0 defeat against Corinth-Holders on Monday afternoon.

"I thought we came out slow and by the time we got going it was too late," said Cougars head coach Tyler Gatlin. "We played alright in the second half, but it was not enough to get back in it."

Goldsboro (0-4-0 overall) entertains Wayne Country Day on Wednesday.

JV sports

* Volleyball: James Kenan d. North Duplin 25-23, 25-21 -- Ansley Hill led the Rebels with four service aces and three assists. Kristen Martin and Jessica Jones each finished with two kills. North Duplin fell to 3-3 overall.

* Volleyball: Eastern Wayne d. Croatan 25-27, 25-22, 25-23 -- Erica Duke led the Warriors with four kills. Eastern Wayne improved to 5-1 on the season.

* Volleyball: Greene Central d. Spring Creek 25-23, 22-25, 26-24 -- Hannah Keel tallied six aces and three kills for the Gators. Gracia Aquilla tallied four aces.
