DUDLEY -- Wayne South got a big hit from Jaime Dove and held off a late rally for a 6-4 win over Wayne North in Junior American Legion baseball action on Monday night.

Tied at 1-1, Wayne South rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Will Raynor led off with a single and Clayton Cashwell walked. Thomas Kelly laid down a perfect bunt that turned into an infield hit and loaded the bases for Dove. After getting ahead in the count, Dove roped a base hit into the right center-field gap.

Never slowing down, Dove raced into third base for a stand-up, three-run triple. One batter later, Keith Jones laid down a suicide squeeze that easily scored Dove.

"That one inning was really the whole ball game tonight," said Wayne South head coach Trae McKee. "Jaime hit a ball hard and showed his speed, and Keith really came through with a perfect suicide bunt."

Wayne North (5-5 overall) battled back with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Justin Lee singled, Wesley Capps followed with a base hit and Tyler Hutter delivered a pinch-hit RBI single. An error allowed Capps and Hutter to score, and cut the South lead to 6-4.

"I thought the pitching was pretty good on both sides tonight," said Wayne North head coach Roger May. "We just didn't do enough of the little things well enough to win. We left way too many guys on base and never came up with a big hit."

Logan Wicks took the loss for Wayne North.

Jeremy Taylor tossed five innings of relief to earn the mound win for Wayne South. Taylor struck out seven and walked five. Will Raynor worked 1 2/3 innings to earn the save.

Wayne South (10-1) travels to Wilson Hunt tonight.

"We have four games this week and we are going to learn a lot about our pitching," said McKee. "We need to find some arms that can go the rest of this week and piece it together on the mound."

Wayne North entertains Spring Creek on Wednesday.
