JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Mike Costanzo had two hits, including a two-run single in the fifth inning, and Carolina upended Jacksonville 3-1 at the Baseball Grounds on Thursday evening.
The game was scoreless until the fifth when Jake Kahaulelio dropped a single to center to score winning pitcher Lee Tabor from second base. Costanzo followed with a bullet past first baseman Mark Saccomanno to jump the lead to 3-0.
Suns slugger Mike Stanton batted as the tying run against Tabor in the sixth, but grounded into a double play. Stanton did single in the Suns' only run in the eighth against Ruben Medina, but Vinny Rottino hit a hard grounder back to the mound to end the inning.
Jordan Smith (S, 9) worked a scoreless ninth to register his ninth save of the season and even the series with Jacksonville. Carolina (25-29 overall) won its second straight at the Baseball Grounds.

The K-Tribe pulled within 4-3, but could get no closer.
The teams continue their four-game series today.
