May's hit helps WC North split twinbill with D.H. Conley

Jake May supplied the game-winning hit in game one and Wayne County North split an American Junior Legion baseball twinbill with D.H. Conley on Saturday afternoon.

May's two-RBI, fifth-inning single pushed WC North to a 2-1 victory in the opener.

D.H. Conley claimed the nightcap, 4-3.

May and Justin Lee each provided one hit apiece in the opener. Teammate Nolan James claimed the mound win in a complete-game performance.

James crushed a solo home run in game two. May (RBI), Wesley Stewart and Wesley Capps (RBI) each contributed one hit.

WC North hurlers Ryan Faucette and Jeremy Lancaster combined to surrender four earned runs.

Spring Creek triumphs

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Hunter Barnett pitched a scoreless seventh and earned the save as Spring Creek dumped Snow Hill 8-7 in the Junior American Legion baseball opener for both teams Friday evening.

Duane Gurganus seized the mound win for Spring Creek.

Barnett, Zack Harrell (2 RBI) and Wyatt Jenning (RBI) combined for five hits in the nail-biting affair. Gurganus, Cory Howell and Ricky Brayboy also contributed on offense.

C.B. Aycock rolls over N. Lenoir

PIKEVILLE -- Adam Pate surrendered one hit in three-plus innings, and Charles B. Aycock hammered North Lenoir 11-5 in their American Junior Legion baseball outing.

Pate aided his cause offensively with two hits, including a double, and two walks. Tyler Farmer swiped two bases, while Collin DuBose (2-for-3) slugged home a run and collected three RBI.

Cameron Taylor slugged a home run and finished with five RBI. Jeff Davis (RBI) and Josiah Laser (RBI) delivered two hits apiece.

Aycock improved to 2-0 overall.
