Princeton's Wilson captures two individual state championships

GREENSBORO -- T.J. Wilson finally claimed two gold medals that eluded him a year ago.

The Princeton High sprinter emerged the state champion in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles during the season-ending, N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A men's track and field championships contested Friday.

Wilson lost his bid to defend his triple jump state crown, and ended up second. He also captured the silver medal in the long jump.

Teammates Decardo Cole and David Phillips recorded top-10 efforts in the high jump and pole vault, respectively. The Dogs' 400 relay -- Wesley Thompson, Javontae Davis, Patrick Jacobs and Cole -- placed sixth with a time of 44.35 seconds.

Rosewood's Ahkeem Simms logged a fifth-place time in the 400 and was 10th in the high jump. He ran the anchor leg on the 1,600-meter relay which crossed the finish line seventh in 3:34.97. Joining Simms were Antonio Henriques, Ashanti McFarland and Jacquez Raynor.

Goldsboro's James Williams earned a top-10 showing in the high jump.

The Cougars' 3,200 relay -- Bryan Johnson, Devon Deshields, Micah Best and Corteiz Sprangle -- finished 14th. The 800 relay of Vontarius Kornegay, Demetrio Irby, Sprangle and Karon Alston was 11th.

Spring Creek's Sean Stallings was seventh in the 400.

On the girls' side, the Gators' Melanique DeVeaux placed fifth in the high jump.

Princeton's Amber and Ashley Gagliano ended up seventh and eighth, respectively, in the pole vault. The Dogs' 3,200 relay -- Brittany Rainbow, Ashley Jacobs, Linda Smith and Lauren Woodard -- crossed the line 14th overall.

Rosewood's 1,600 relay of Taylor Johnson, Alexis Green, Armani Perry and Crystal Allen turned in a sixth-place time of 4:23.83. The Eagles' 3,200 squad of Johnson, Holly Heath, Allen and Perry were clocked 10th overall with a time of 11:19.72.

Goldsboro's 1,600 relay -- Kayla Jones, Ghomonni Uzzell, Jade Dansler and Stephani Taylor -- wound up 14th.
