Rosewood never mounted much of an offensive attack in a 6-0 loss against Raleigh Charter in the opening round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A women's soccer playoffs Wednesday evening.

The Eagles attempted two shots in the first half and failed to tally a single shot after the intermission.

"I told the girls before the game tonight that this was going to be a very good team," said Rosewood head coach Eddie Maldonado. "Last year we got a favorable draw and we made it to the third round. This year we got a tough draw and got eliminated in the opening round."

The Phoenix (9-6-1 overall) got off to a good start when Rachel Schwab collected a line pass and raced between defenders before pulling the trigger on a laser shot that gave her team a 1-0 lead. Raleigh Charter added a second goal before the intermission when Anjali Paintal scored off a pass from Hannah Deeters.

The second half did not go any better for the home team.

Katherine Rhudy added an insurance goal for the Phoenix in the 59th minute when she headed a pass from Paintal into the net.

"Charter controlled the ball and they capitalized on almost every opportunity that they had," said Maldonado. "Obviously, they know where each other is going to be on the field and they are fundamentally sound on offense."

Paintal added an additional goal in the 65th minute and was immediately followed by a score off the foot of Maddie Matthews. The Phoenix capped the scoring in the 76th minute when Deeters fielded a loose ball and buried a shot in the corner of the net.

Rosewood keeper Taylor Johnson collected 12 saves on 25 Phoenix shots.

The Eagles finished the season 11-5 overall.
