WILSON -- This one ended quickly.
Meredith Pruden scored in the first 12 seconds and state-ranked Wilson Fike dismantled Charles B. Aycock 8-0 in their opening-round, N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A women's soccer playoff game Tuesday evening.
Pruden finished with two goals and an assist, while teammate Natalie Winslow provided two goals and two assists. Anna Tew, Kelly Sigmon, Megan Boswell and Carly Ferrell collected one goal apiece.
Connor Allegood, Shelby Koenig and Caylin Yarbrough each handed out an assist.
"We told the girls at the half Fike definitely came out fired up ready to play and full of energy -- winning all the loose balls, maintaining their field position (and) making nice through balls," said Aycock assistant coach Adam Livengood. "We were just a step behind. I hate to say it, but I just don't think we were ready to play at the level they came out to play tonight.
"It's really hard to come from behind with a team like this."
The Golden Demons owned a decisive 19-3 advantage in shots.
Golden Falcons keeper Courtney Sheeks recorded 11 saves. Sheeks played her final contest along with fellow seniors Taylor DeMartini, Elvia Rodriguez, Caroline Schlaeppi, Jessica Kyer, Amanda Farmer, Alma Islas, Stephanie Lopez, Alicia Sodoma and Jessica Price.
Fike (17-4-1 overall) earned its seventh shutout against Aycock since 2005. The Golden Demons have won all nine meetings and allowed just two goals during the past five seasons.
The Golden Falcons concluded the year 13-8-3.
