CALYPSO -- Brian Chase threw a complete-game, three-hitter and North Duplin turned back archrival Spring Creek 4-1 on Friday evening.

It was the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season finale for both baseball teams. The Rebels (13-5 overall, 6-4 CC) avenged an 11-inning loss to the Gators less than three weeks ago.

Chase held the Gators scoreless until the seventh and finished with two strikeouts.

Julio Mora (1-for-3, 2 RBI) swatted a home run for North Duplin, which grabbed a 4-0 lead through four innings. Shayne Deaver and Chase (RBI) each provided one hit.

The Gators used four pitchers. Eric Evans took the loss and surrendered two runs (one earned) on three hits. Duane Gurganus yielded two earned runs. Hunter Barnett and Ricky Brayboy combined for two innings of no-hit, two-strikeout relief.

Each team returns to action Friday in the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs. The first-round pairings have not been determined.
