PIKEVILLE -- C.B. Aycock looked uninspired for 40 minutes.

The Golden Falcons recovered in impressive fashion.

C.B. Aycock tallied three second-half goals, and dumped Triton 3-1 in their Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference women's soccer tournament semifinal Wednesday evening.

The Hawks got on the board in the opening minute of the game when Laura Godwin found Darien McNeill streaking toward the net. McNeill buried a shot in the back of the net.

"We told the girls at halftime that they were not playing smart enough to put the ball in the back of the net," said Golden Falcons assistant coach Adam Livengood said. "We came out with a better effort and we were able to keep our spacing which created opportunities."

In the 59th minute, Tara Simmons collected a long ball and raced between two Triton defenders. Simmons side-stepped a third Hawk on her way into the 18-yard box and curved a shot around the keeper to tie the game.

Eight minutes later, Amanda Farmer collected a long pass from Caroline Schlaeppi and broke the 1-1 deadlock with a laser shot from 10 yards out. Farmer iced the game two minutes later when she received a pass from Madison Mercer and tallied her second goal of the night.

"After we gave up that early goal I told the team that Triton did not have to score again to win this game," said Livengood. "My point was that we had to score to pull them out of their defensive set and open up the field. The second goal did that."

C.B. Aycock fired 13 shots to just four by Triton.

The win places the Golden Falcons (12-6-2 overall) in the tournament finals at Eastern Wayne on Friday night.

"We made some good adjustments the second time we played (Eastern Wayne), but they made adjustments too," said Livengood. "The girls all grew up playing together in youth leagues and there are certainly no secrets between the two teams."
