SNOW HILL -- Greene Central held off Southern Wayne for a 5-3, non-conference baseball victory on Monday night.
Trent Murray led the Rams at the plate with two hits and two RBI.
Ryan Cobb emerged as the winning pitcher. Cody Davis sufferend the loss for the Saints.
Ashton Cox recorded two hits and an RBI for Southern Wayne. Taylor Gainey added one hit and one RBI.
Weather permitting, Greene Central (14-6 overall) returns to action tonight at North Pitt. Southern Wayne (13-11) entertains North Lenoir in quarterfinal-round play of the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tournament.
If the game is rained out, the teams will play at 7 p.m. Wednesday. In the other first-round game, Triton travels to South Johnston.
Regular-season champion Eastern Wayne and Charles B. Aycock each drew a first-round bye.
Softball
Falcons grounded
GREENVILLE -- D.H. Conley got off to a hot start and never looked back in an 11-2, non-conference victory over C.B. Aycock on Monday afternooon.
Ahsley Shingleton took the loss in the pitcher's circle for the Golden Falcons.
Cassidy Anderson led the C.B. Aycock offense with a hit in her only at-bat. Jenna Van Horn, Amber Rose, Rachel Jordan, Brooke Bell and Autumn Pittman each added one hit in the loss.
The Golden Falcons (13-7 overall) concludes regular-season play at home Friday against Northern Nash.
Soccer
Eagles earn tie
ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Christian rallied from a slow start, but could not push a goal across in a 0-0 draw with Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Monday afternoon.
Kaitlyn Kosuda tallied 18 saves for the Eagles.
Wayne Christian concluded regular-season play 6-7-1 overall.
