ERWIN -- Zack Mozingo tossed six shutout innings and allowed just one hit as Eastern Wayne defeated Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Triton 7-0 on Tuesday night.
Mozingo recorded six strikeouts and walked two. Josh Frederick threw one inning of perfect relief, striking out the side in the seventh.
Mozingo and Michael Fields both provided two hits and an RBI. Greg Simms, Jose Ponce and Robert Faucette each added a hit and an RBI.
"We're playing the best we've played all year at the present time," said Warriors head coach Jabo Fulghum. "We've got to take one game at a time and keep improving. We're starting to gel."
Eastern Wayne (10-9 overall, 6-1 ECC) plays host to Charles B. Aycock on Friday. First pitch is 7 p.m.
Hawks down Saints
DUDLEY -- Every North Lenoir starter had at least one hit in a 13-1, six-inning victory over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Southern Wayne on Tuesday evening.
The Hawks' Chastin Radford collected three hits, including a home run to go with six RBI. Will Sutton also had three hits. North Lenoir finished with 18 hits.
Scott Ginn earned the win on the mound, allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk in a complete game.
Keith Jones tallied two hits for the Saints. Cody Davis, Zach Grantham, Tyler Gainey and Breyon Johnson each had one hit.
Will Broadwell took the loss on the mound.
North Lenoir (7-11 overall, 2-5 ECC) entertains non-conference foe Kinston today. The Saints (10-9, 2-5) play host to South Johnston on Thursday.
Rams thump Vikings
SNOW HILL -- Greene Central turned back Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opponent Tarboro 13-3 in six innings on Tuesday night.
Will Crandle led the Rams with a 3 for 3 performance at the plate. Will Bynum (2 RBI) provided two hits, including a solo home run. Ryan Cobb had two hits and Zack Chase (2 RBI) contributed a hit.
Deric Grant recorded the win on the mound surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and a walk in five innings.
Greene Central (11-6 overall, 7-1 EPC) continues conference play Friday at home against Kinston.
WCS wins big
RALEIGH -- Wayne Christian rolled past Grace Christian 14-2 in five innings on Tuesday.
Stephen Gallagher and Luke Howell each had three hits for the Eagles. Travis Thomas, Chase Darden and Gregory Johnson all contributed two hits. Dylan Smith, Ryan Cooke and Tyler Mooring all added a hit.
Chandler Harrell picked up the win on the mound in four innings of work.
Wayne Christian (11-7 overall) visits Fayetteville Christian on Thursday.
Cougars fall
AYDEN -- Goldsboro endured an 11-1 loss at Carolina 1-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday.
A.J. Lane went 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI for the Cougars. Asunji Maddox added a hit and scored a run.
Goldsboro plays host to North Duplin on Thursday.
Softball
SW rallies past NL
LaGRANGE -- Madison Davis' two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning lifted Southern Wayne to an 11-10 win at Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir on Tuesday night.
Davis paced the Saints with three hits. Kayla Gracyk, Brittany Pate and Hope Rose all had two hits. Taylor Parker added a hit.
Davis tossed three innings of relief to collect the win in the pitcher's circle.
Liz Deal and Courtney Hill both had two hits for the Hawks. Kayla Letchworth, Brittany Barrow, Ashley Daughety, Dani Roberson and Bri Langely each supplied a hit.
Southern Wayne (5-12 overall, 2-4 ECC) entertains South Johnston on Thursday, while North Lenoir (8-6, 3-4) visits Kinston today.
Falcons grounded
PIKEVILLE -- South Johnston completed a regular-season sweep of Charles B. Aycock with a 7-2 road victory on Tuesday night.
Brooke Bell led the Golden Falcons with three hits. Rachel Jordan contributed two hits. Ivy Hartzell pitched in a solo home run and Cara Frerick (RBI), Connor Davis and Sarah Beth Marquis each had a hit.
Bell suffered the loss in the pitcher's circle.
Aycock (11-5 overall, 5-2 ECC) travels to Eastern Wayne on Friday.
Warriors blanked
ERWIN -- Eastern Wayne failed to reach base in an 11-0, five-inning loss at Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opponent Triton on Tuesday night.
Lani Fricks endured the loss in the pitcher's circle for the Warriors.
Eastern Wayne (4-11 overall, 0-7 ECC) plays host to Charles B. Aycock on Friday.
Bulldogs bite Eagles
Princeton pounded out 21 hits on its way to a 15-6 win at Carolina 1-A Conference rival Rosewood on Tuesday.
Rebecca Harlan went 5 for 5 at the plate with three RBI for the Bulldogs. Megan Gerell added four hits and Hannah Wood had three hits. Hannah Woodard collected two hits, including a home run to go with three RBI.
Brittany Smith, Tylan George (2 RBI), Kaitlyn Peedin (2 RBI), Traci Bridgers and Megan Myers all record a hit.
Bridgers picked up the win on the mound tossing 5 1/3 shutout innings while surrendering just two hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
Kelsey Kornegay, Charlotte Kornegay, Keke Parks and Amanda Beckert each had a hit for the Eagles.
Princeton (9-4 overall, 4-0 CC) entertains North Johnston today, while Rosewood (2-8, 2-2) plays host to Ayden-Grifton on Friday.
Rebels bag Gators
SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Duplin pushed across five runs in the fifth inning and defeated Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Spring Creek 6-3 on Tuesday evening.
Tearra Ammons (RBI), Angelica Favela (RBI), Ansley Hill (RBI), Alonna Pate (RBI) and Skylar McCarty each had a hit for the Rebels.
North Duplin (3-7 overall, 2-2 CC) visits Goldsboro on Thursday, while the Gators (1-8, 1-3) entertain Princeton.
Soccer
PHS routs GHS
Ashley Jacobs scored three times and handed out two assists to lead Princeton to a 7-0 win at Carolina 1-A Conference foe Goldsboro on Tuesday evening.
Madison Parker and Erin Schultze both scored twice. Bulldogs' keeper Amber Brush recorded her third shutout of the season.
Princeton (2-5-1 overall) entertains Spring Creek today.
Tennis
EW prevails
Eastern Wayne cruised by Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Southern Wayne 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
Chaz Fitzpatrick, Russell Turner, Aaron Dunmire, Mike Barnette, Joe DiCesare and Marvin Bowman Jr. each recorded a singles point for the Warriors.
The doubles teams of Fitzpatrick-Barnette, Turner-Dunmire and DiCesare-Bowman Jr. were also victorious.
Eastern Wayne (11-2 overall, 7-2 ECC) entertains Rocky Mount today, while Southern Wayne (9-4, 6-3) concludes regular-season play at C.B. Aycock on Thursday.
Chargers victorious
Wayne Country Day defeated Cape Fear Academy's junior varsity squad 6-3 on the Wayne Community College courts.
Michael Knutson, Thomas Elmore, Jack Langston and Alex Nolan were all winners in singles play for the Chargers.
The doubles teams of Langston-Douglas Williams and Nolan-Ravi Chittilla were also victorious.
JV sports
* Baseball: Eastern Wayne 10, Triton 4 -- Jeremy Lancaster led the Warriors with three hits and two RBI. Tyler Ware (RBI), Jake May (RBI), Benito Avila and M.J. Morgan each had two hits. Nolan James recorded the win on the mound for Eastern Wayne (11-6 overall, 3-4 ECC) in five innings of work.
Middle schools
* Baseball: Wayne Christian 15, Trinity of Durham 4 -- Cameron Foss paced the Eagles with four hits. Austin Howell, Bryce Norman and Chandler Gentry each tallied three hits. Hunter Burt provided two hits. Foss and Howell combined to throw a four-hitter . Wayne Christian (8-3 overall) has now won eight games in a row and faces Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Friday.
