DUDLEY -- County golf rivals Rosewood and Spring Creek continued their season-long battle in Carolina 1-A Conference action, and played their closest match of the season Thursday afternoon at Southern Wayne Country Club.

The Eagles edged the Gators 321-327 and extended their season-long advantage to 28 strokes heading into Monday's regular-season finale at Ayden Country Club. North Duplin finished a distant third at 404, followed by Goldsboro (409) and Princeton (430).

Rosewood sophomore Blake Weaver seized medalist honors with a season-low 77. Teammate Will Coughron, who had emerged the lowest-scoring golfer in the previous four league matches, contributed an 80.

Wesley Hobleman and sophomore Brett Robinson supplied 18-hole rounds of 79 and 85, respectively.

"Brett has gotten better and has really come along," said Eagles head coach Daniel Baynes. "I was real excited about Blake. We had some really good performances by some kids who don't necessarily always shoot low. I'm really proud of them."

The Gators' Paul Sullivan fired a 79 and shared medalist runners-up honors with Hobleman. Jordan Edwards (82), Kenneth Freeman (83) and Daniel Richter (83) rounded out Spring Creek's four-player total.

Adam Brock claimed North Duplin's lowest round with a 97.

Obadiah Speight paced Goldsboro with an 88, while Princeton's Ryne Woodard posted an 83.
