Cameron Ford continues to pitch well in big games.
The senior right-hander scattered eight hits in a complete-game effort and Wayne Country Day hammered Greenfield 10-1 in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference action Tuesday afternoon.
The Chargers played without head coach Michael Taylor, whose wife gave birth to a baby boy, Heath, earlier in the day.
"I am just so proud of the team and my assistant coaches today for playing with heart," said Taylor. "Ford pitches in every big game and he is not letting this team down. It just seems that someone different is picking this team up each day."
Ford logged five strikeouts and walked two.
Tee Uzzell swatted a two-run home run for Wayne Country Day, while teammate Cole Davis provided three hits and two RBI. Hil Tanner (4 RBI) and Cody Neal supplied two hits apiece.
It was the Chargers' fifth straight win.
WCDS (10-6 overall, 4-0 CPIC) travels to perennial power Waccamaw Academy today. First pitch is 4 p.m.
