Wayne Christian pounded out 22 hits and dominated Carolina Christian 1-A Conference baseball foe Northwood Temple 26-0 in five innings on Monday afternoon.

Travis Thomas and Stephen Gallagher each tallied four hits on the day. Dylan Smith and Gregory Johnson each finished with three hits apiece.

Johnson earned the win on the pitcher's mound for the Eagles and combined with Gallagher to throw a no-hitter.

Wayne Christian travels to Grace Christian of Raleigh today.

Conquerors prevail

Faith Christian continued its hot start on the baseball diamond with an 8-5 win over Bethel Christian on Monday afternoon.

The Conquerors improved to 9-0 overall on the season.

Matt Lambert picked up the win on the pitcher's mound and Nick Gurley recorded the save.

Silas Denlinger led the Conquerors at the plate with a home run and two runs scored. Chris Powell added a double and two RBI.

Faith Christian visits Bethel Christian for the rematch on April 26.

Softball

CBA slugs Hunt

WILSON -- C.B. Aycock got a solid team effort at the plate in a 9-6, come-from-behind win over Wilson Hunt on Monday.

Sarah Beth Marquis and Ivy Hartzell tallied two hits apiece to lead the Golden Falcons. Cara Frederick belted a two-run triple.

Ashley Shingleton earned the win in the pitcher's circle in relief of Autumn Pittman.

C.B. Aycock (11-4 overall) entertains South Johnston tonight in a pivotal Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference showdown.

Wayne Christian rolls

Sarah McCollum celebrated senior night with a 3-for-3 effort offensively, and Wayne Christian hammered Community Christian 13-1 in Carolina Christian 1-A Conference play Monday afternoon.

Ashley Thompson, also a senior, contributed one hit in two at-bats.

Rachel McCollum tripled in a 2-for-4 performance, while Kayla Kennedy homered in a 3-for-3 effort. Courtney Barrow tripled and doubled. Reagan Hinton batted 3-for-4 with a triple and two singles.

McCollum limited Community to one unearned run on two hits and recorded 13 strikeouts inside the pitcher's circle.

The Eagles (7-1 overall, 2-1 CCC) travel to Terra Ceia on Thursday.

Soccer

Eagles notch win

Wayne Christian earned a hard-fought 1-0 win on senior day over Carolina Christian 1-A Conference opponent Northwood Temple on Monday afternoon.

Lindley Pierce scored the Eagles' only goal in the final two minutes. Brooke Barfield tallied the assist.

Wayne Christian (4-2-0 overall) is the guest Grace Christian of Raleigh today.

Rosewood posts shutout

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Rosewood recorded a 27-6 advantage in shots on goal en route to a 4-0 win over Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek on Monday.

Francesca Verceles-Zara, Gabrielle Cornman, Brittney McGill and Rachyle McAlduff each scored one goal for the Eagles. Chelsea Sasser tallied two assists in the win.

The Eagles (6-4-0 overall, 1-0-0 CC) entertain Goldsboro on Wednesday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Branch Pope Field.

JV sports

* Soccer: Wayne Country Day 5, Cape Fear 2 -- The Chargers benefitted by an own goal from the Cape Fear keeper and never looked back. Sarah Best added two goals in the victory. Catherine Ford and Mollie Catherine McDonald each added one goal.
