Wayne Christian strolled past county archrival Wayne Country Day 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Wayne Community College.

Taylor Gray, Christopher Easom, Woody Sasser, Kenneth Giordano and Matthew Thompson were all winners in singles play for the Eagles.

The tandems of Gray-Easom, Daniel Glover-Sasser and Jeremy Willman-Nicholas Easom prevailed in doubles play for Wayne Christian.

Jack Langston earned the Chargers' lone singles point.

The Eagles (4-0 overall) face Eastern Wayne's junior varsity squad on Monday at Wayne Community College.

Cougars triumph

Goldsboro turned back Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Spring Creek 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Bernard Green, Nathan Wright, Chuck Stanley, Ed Herrera and Taylor Ingram were each singles winners for the Cougars.

The doubles teams of Green-Charles Robinson and Wright-Stanley were also victorious for Goldsboro.

Kent Jernagen recorded a singles win for the Gators. The team of Abraham Ortiz-Mathew King prevailed in doubles play for Spring Creek.

EW routs NL

Eastern Wayne cruised past Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe North Lenoir 8-1 on Tuesday.

Chaz Fitzpatrick, Aaron Dunmire, Mike Barnette, Joe DiCesare and Carson Daly were all victorious in singles play for the Warriors.

"I thought Mike and Carson played well in today's windy conditions," said Eastern Wayne coach Craig Hassell. "Connor Childers also got his first varsity match experience at number six (singles). Although Connor lost, he also won his exhibition match. As a coach, it feels rewarding to see all players contribute to the overall team."

The teams of Fitzpatrick-Barnette, Dunmire-DiCesare and Daly-Marvin Bowman were winners in doubles play for Eastern Wayne.

Taylor Gray collected a singles victory for the Hawks.

The Warriors (8-1 overall, 4-1 ECC) travel to South Johnston today.

Falcons drop Saints

DUDLEY -- Two-time defending Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference champion Charles B. Aycock remained undefeated with an 8-1 win at Southern Wayne on Tuesday.

The Golden Falcons (7-0 overall, 5-0 ECC) entertain North Lenoir on Thursday, while the Saints (6-3, 3-2) visit Triton.

GC downs Edenton

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central picked up a 6-3 non-conference victory over visiting Edenton Holmes on Tuesday.

Eric Simmons, Colby Chase, Dylan Smith and Josh Recore were all singles winners for the Rams, who improved to 7-3 overall this season.

The doubles teams of Simmons-Chase and Recore-Thigpen were also victorious for Greene Central.

Baseball

Chargers snap skid

Wayne Country Day rolled past Oakwood 21-2 on Tuesday.

Hil Tanner supplied four hits and four RBI for the Chargers. Dare Uzzell had three hits and three RBI. Cole Davis finished with three hits and two RBI. Bryce Creger (RBI), Stoan Stewart, Cody Neal, Tyson Pearson and Cameron Ford (3 RBI) each had two hits.

Uzzell earned the win on the mound, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in three innings. Tucker Pearson tossed two innings of no-hit, one-strikeout relief.

Wayne Country Day (5-5 overall), which snapped its five-game skid, plays host to Lawrence Academy on Thursday.

Dogs bite Rebels

CALYPSO -- Austin Hinton scattered four hits and struck out 12 as Princeton earned a 6-2, Carolina 1-A Conference win against previously-unbeaten North Duplin on Tuesday.

Forrest Stewart provided two hits and three RBI for the Bulldogs. Hinton, Luke Mitchell and Patrick Jacobs all had a hit apiece.

Shayne Deaver and Ryan Wolfe both tallied two hits for the Rebels.

Hinton pitched a complete game, allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits with four walks and 12 strikeouts. Brian Chase suffered the loss for North Duplin.

The Rebels (6-1 overall, 1-1 CC) travel to Lakewood today.

Hawks prevail

ERWIN -- North Lenoir defeated Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Triton 9-2 on Tuesday night.

Rand Jackson collected two hits for the Hawks, including a home run.

North Lenoir entertains ECC opponent South Johnston today.

Tigers win

WARSAW -- James Kenan erupted for six runs in the home half of the second inning and defeated Tri-County 1-A Conference foe Hobbton 9-3 on Tuesday.

Ricky Langston finished 3 for 3 at the plate with a home run and two RBI. Kyle Bostic was 2 for 4 with a three-run homer and Tyler Haney added two hits including a two-run blast. Kedron Foster and Gunner Wolz both had two hits.

Haney picked up the win on the mound allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks in 5 2/3 innings of work.

James Kenan (5-4 overall, 4-1 TCC) plays host to Midway today.

Rams fall short

FARMVILLE -- Greene Central came up short in an 8-7, eight-inning loss at Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opponent Farmville Central on Tuesday.

Trent Murray (2 RBI) and Will Bynum each contributed two hits for the Rams. Jon Nethercutt added a triple and an RBI.

Wes Sowers took the loss on the mound allowing one run on one hit with four strikeouts in two innings.

Greene Central (6-3 overall, 3-1 EPC) plays host to North Pitt today.

SW no-hit

FOUR OAKS -- N.C. State recruit Logan Jernigan tossed a no-hitter and South Johnston defeated Southern Wayne 10-0 in six innings on Tuesday evening.

Jeremy Taylor took the loss on the mound for the Saints, allowing three runs on three hits in one inning of work.

The Saints (6-5 overall, 1-2 ECC) visit Eastern Wayne on Thursday.

Softball

Rebels stumble

CALYPSO -- Princeton pushed across six runs in the second inning and rolled past Carolina 1-A Conference opponent North Duplin 15-2 in five innings on Tuesday.

Kailey Odom (RBI), Caitlin Davis and Angelica Favela all had hits for the Rebels.

North Duplin (1-5 overall) entertains Lakewood today.

WCS roughed up

ERWIN -- Cape Fear Christian Academy scored in five of the six innings played in an 11-1, Carolina Christian 1-A Conference win over visiting Wayne Christian on Tuesday.

The Eagles were held to just one run on four hits and committed four errors.

Rachel McCollum led Wayne Christian with two hits. Kayla Kennedy and Courtney Barrow both had hits. McCollum took the loss in the pitcher's circle.

The Eagles (4-1 overall, 0-1 CCC) travel to Faith of Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Soccer

Eagles soar

ERWIN -- Wayne Christian scored just three minutes into the game on its way to a 5-0 win at Carolina Christian 1-A foe Cape Fear Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Cape Fear scored an own goal off a corner kick from the Eagles' Katie Isenhower in the opening minutes of the game. Brooke Barfield's goal roughly 10 minutes later increased the lead to 2-0.

Isenhower's goal gave Wayne Christian a 3-0 lead at the half. Miranda Taylor and Brittney Kornegay both added goals in the second half.

The Eagles (3-2 overall, 3-0 CCC) play host to Northwood on Thursday.

Golf

Down East Seniors

DUDLEY -- Fayetteville's Bruce Barnhardt carded a 77 and emerged victorious in the season-opening, Down East Senior Tour event contested at Southern Wayne Country Club on Tuesday.

Fellow Fayetteville competitor Milt de Reyna finished one stroke back in "A" Flight play, while Clayton's Steve Wirth fired an 80.

Kinston's Denny Spence took the top spot with an 82 in "B" Flight play. Godwin's Larry Baggett edged Charlie Williams of Autryville by one shot to win the "C" Flight.

Walnut Creek LGA

Evelyn Rose claimed play-of-the-day honors during weekly action on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.

Novella Zambelli and Nancy Satterfield seized first and second low gross, respectively. Charlotte Campbell and Betty Holloway took first and second low net, respectively.

Mary Ann Sutton grabbed low putts for the field.

JV sports

* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 7, Eastern Wayne 1 -- Cameron Taylor (2 RBI), Collin DuBose (RBI) and Adam Pate led the Golden Falcons with three hits apiece. Justin Barbour (RBI) and Blake Sutton each had hits. Nolan James provided two hits and an RBI for the Warriors. Taylor allowed one run on three hits with 11 strikeouts in six innings of work to earn the win on the mound. Aycock (10-0 overall) entertains Triton on Thursday.

* Baseball: Rosewood 15, Princeton 2, five innings -- Brandon Duren collected two hits and scored three runs for the Eagles. Logan Waters got the win on the mound.

* Baseball: Southern Wayne 5, South Johnston 2 -- Shortstop Taylor Raynor provided the game-winning it in the sixth inning for the Saints. Raynor finished with two hits and two RBI. Matt Sparks, Cody Wendorf and Sam Ferrell contributed one hit apiece. Jamar Holmes emerged the winning pitcher and Thomas Kelly earned the save. Southern Wayne (4-4 overall) entertains county rival Eastern Wayne on Thursday.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Wayne Christian 12, Neuse Charter 0 (5 inn.) -- Cameron Foss and Tanner Rose both had two hits for Wayne Christian. Bryce Norman, Austin Sutton and Hunter Burt all added hits. The Eagles (4-3 overall) visit Oakwood on April 12.
