WARSAW -- James Kenan scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and defeated Tri-County 1-A foe Lakewood 8-1 on Thursday.

Tigers' starting pitcher Ricky Langston allowed one unearned run on just two hits. He recorded 10 strikeouts and walked three in six innings of work.

Langston also went 3 for 3 at the plate with three RBI. Kedron Foster supplied two hits and two RBI. Kyle Bostic had two hits, while Gunner Wolz was 1 for 3 with a triple and two RBI.

James Kenan (4-4 overall, 3-1 TCC) entertains Hobbton on Tuesday.

Chargers fall

MERRY HILL -- Wayne Country Day struggled defensively, committing six errors in a 12-0, non-conference loss at No. 1-ranked Lawrence Academy on Thursday.

The Chargers made five errors in the first two innings.

Hil Tanner tallied two hits for Wayne Country Day. Cody Neal, Stoan Stewart and Cole Davis each had one hit.

The Chargers (4-2 overall) visit Cary Academy this weekend for a three-game tournament.

Softball

EW stumbles

Eastern Wayne mustered just one hit in a 15-0, six-inning loss against Eastern Carolina 3-A rival Triton on Thursday afternoon.

Kara Peralta collected the Warriors' lone hit.

Lani Fricks endured the pitching defeat.

Eastern Wayne (3-6 overall, 0-2 ECC) travels to Greene Central on Monday.

Conquerors defeated

CHOCOWINITY -- Faith Christian was dealt a 12-2, six-inning loss by TEACH homeschool on Thursday.

Hannah Stocks and Breanna Champion both recorded two hits for the Conquerors. Madison Caudle contributed a hit.

Faith visits Wake Christian today.

Tennis

Rams buck Panthers

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central claimed all six singles matches in a 6-3 victory over Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe North Pitt on Thursday.

Eric Simmons, Colby Chase, Dylan Smith, Hunter Thigpen, Ian Whitson and Josh Recore were all winners in singles play for the Rams (6-3 overall, 6-0 EPC) .

Soccer

CBA slips past RHS

Madison Mercer scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 24th minute and Charles B. Aycock held off Rosewood for a 2-1, non-conference win at Branch Pope Field.

The Golden Falcons' Taylor Demartini opened the scoring in the 21st minute. The Eagles tied the game at 1-1 just two minutes later before Mercer scored the go-ahead goal in the 24th minute.

Tara Simmons and Elvia Rodriguez each had an assist for Aycock.

Golden Falcons' keeper Courtney Sheeks recorded three saves.

Aycock (6-3-1 overall) plays host to Eastern Wayne on Monday.

Track

Warriors cruise

FOUR OAKS -- Eastern Wayne's girls earned 11 first-place finishes and cruised to an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tri-meet victory at South Johnston on Thursday.

The Warriors compiled a team score of 80 finishing ahead of South Johnston's 48. County rival Charles B. Aycock was third with a score of 36.

Eastern Wayne's Tiarra McIntyre finished first in the high jump and the 110-meter hurdles. Rajuana Boyette was first in the long jump and the 400 meters. Brianna Coleman crossed the finish line in first place in the 200 meters.

The Warriors swept the relays.

Eastern Wayne visits Greene Central on Tuesday.

Aycock battles

FOUR OAKS -- Charles B. Aycock's Deven Sanders emerged the 200-meter dash winner and ran the opening leg on the winning 400-meter relay during a three-team, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet at South Johnston.

Antonio Applewhite, Darius Bryant and Devonte Johnson joined Sanders on the victorious relay. Teammates Elliot Gonzalez, Cade Ivey, Cody Carris and Alex Rogers took first the 3,200-meter relay.

Sanders was second in the 100, while Bryant was the runner-up in the 200. Drew Daniels and Ivey placed second in the discus and 1,600-meter run, respectively.

The Golden Falcons' 800 and 1,600 relays took second, also.

Golf

Hole-in-one

Scott Learn recorded his first career hole-in-one on Tuesday at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.

Learn used a pitching wedge from the white tees on the 16th hole. His witnesses were Jerry McWilliams, Paul Bartlett, Frank Jordan and Phil Talerico.

JV sports

* Baseball: Eastern Wayne 8, Triton 4 -- Josh Dixon provided two hits for the Warriors (4-4 overall, 1-1 ECC) and Wesley Capps added a home run. Jake May earned the win on the mound in five innings of work.

Middle schools

* Softball: Rosewood 6, Grantham 1 -- Emily Brock, Alicia Burns and Anna Ingram each went 2 for 4 for the Eagles (5-1 overall). Callie Thornton recorded 14 strikeouts and earned the in the pitcher's circle.
