Aycock's DuBose no-hits Rosewood

Watching his teammates light up the scoreboard offensively, Eric DuBose wasn't about to be outdone.

The Charles B. Aycock left-hander tossed a no-hitter and the Golden Falcons cruised past Rosewood 10-0 in five innings on Friday afternoon.

DuBose set the Eagles down in order in three of the five innings. The senior recorded five strikeouts and was two walks to Will Winslow away from throwing a perfect game.

"Eric struggled a little bit in his last outing against Hunt," said Aycock head coach Charles Davis. "He came out today and got ahead of pitches, and kept the ball down. He worked quick today. He had a lot of confidence and a lot of poise up there.

"Our pitching staff continues to grow and get better, and I thought Eric took a big step in that today."

Jeff Carmel's two-run single in the top of the second inning gave the Golden Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Jonathan Taylor's RBI double in the top of the fifth extended the margin to 3-0. Carmel followed with an infield single that scored Tyler Ruffin. Carmel finished 3 for 3 at the plate with three RBI.

Tyler Farmer added an RBI single and Connor Narron continued the outburst with a run-scoring walk. Adron Hollowell completed the eight-run top of the fifth with a grand slam to right field.

Farmer collected two hits and an RBI. Hollowell (4 RBI), Jordan Quinn, Nick McGee, Ruffin, Taylor and Travis Musselman each provided a hit.

"It's a win and we ended the week on a good note," said Davis. "The good thing about it is we put the uniform on again on Monday. Starting Tuesday, it's a new season for us in my opinion ... probably the toughest 3-A conference around. We're going to have to be ready to strap it on and go."

Rosewood pitchers combined for six walks, while Aycock put runners aboard in all five innings.

"It's impossible to keep them off the scoreboard if you give them extra outs," said Eagles head coach Jason King. "They're one of the best teams in the state. They've got guys that can hit, they've got guys that can throw it and guys that can field it.

"When you give them extra chances they're going to punish you for it and that's what they did."

The Golden Falcons (7-1 overall) entertain Princeton on Monday, while the Eagles (2-3) play host to East Carteret.
