Stoan Stewart's two-run single to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted Wayne Country Day to a 10-9 comeback win over visiting Waccamaw Academy on Thursday afternoon.

Chargers' hurler Cameron Ford (2-0) struck out the side in the top of the seventh to preserve the win. The right-hander allowed just one hit after the second inning and finished with six strikeouts.

Stewart (2 RBI) and Dare Uzzell (2 RBI) each had a pair of hits. Tyson Pearson contributed a hit.

"This was a team win," said Chargers head coach Michael Taylor. "Cameron had a rough first two innings, but after he settled in to pitch the way we know he can."

Wayne Country Day (4-0 overall) visits Wayne Christian on Monday.

N. Duplin victorious

CALYPSO -- North Duplin continued its hot start to the season with a 9-1 victory over Union on Thursday afternoon.

Shayne Deaver (3 RBI) and James Kornegay each had two hits for the Rebels. Brian Chase (3 RBI), Marcus Kornegay (RBI) and Konner Brock (RBI) all added a hit.

Chase recorded the win on the mound allowing one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

North Duplin (4-0 overall) plays host to Lakewood on Wednesday.

Hawks fall

KINSTON -- North Lenoir suffered a 3-2, non-conference loss at Kinston on Thursday.

Najee Jackson contributed two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Hawks. Grayson Phillips supplied two hits. Scotty Ginn, Rand Jackson and Chastin Radford also had a hit each.

Ginn took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk in six innings.

North Lenoir (2-4 overall) entertains Pamlico today.

Softball

N. Lenoir dominates

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir sailed past Kinston 12-1 on Thursday afternoon.

Liz Deal went 2 for 4 at the plate for the Hawks. Ashley Doughty (2 RBI), Amber Best (2 RBI) and Kristen Davenport (RBI) each provided a hit.

Aaryn Deal picked up the win in the pitcher's circle, allowing just one hit while striking out 10 and walking two.

North Lenoir (5-1 overall) visits Havelock today.

Rebels fall

CLINTON -- North Duplin was dealt an 11-1 loss at Union on Thursday.

Tearra Ammons led the Rebels with two hits and a stolen base. Alonna Pate (RBI) and Skylar McCarty both had hits.

North Duplin (1-3 overall) plays host to Lakewood on Wednesday.

EW swept

Eastern Wayne committed nine errors in both contests and was swept 9-4 and 3-2 in a doubleheader with visiting Havelock on Thursday.

Hannah Grantham tallied two hits for the Warriors in the opener and Sedonia Scott added a hit.

Lani Fricks took the loss in the pitcher's circle, allowing nine runs (five earned) on 10 hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Fricks recorded Eastern Wayne's lone hit in game two. Allyson Newsome took the pitching loss, allowing three runs on one hit with five strikeouts and three walks.

The Warriors (2-4 overall) entertain Jones Senior on Monday.

Tennis

Warriors cruise

ERWIN -- Eastern Wayne's boys' tennis team improved to 2-0 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play with a 9-0 thumping of Triton on Thursday afternoon.

Chaz Fitzpatrick. Aaron Dunmire, Mike Barnette, Joe DiCesare, Marvin Bowman Jr. and Mike Ames all earned victories in singles play for the Warriors.

The doubles teams of Fitzpatrick-Barnette, Dunmire-DiCesare and Carson Daly-Timmy Parker were also victorious.

Eastern Wayne (9-0 overall, 2-0 ECC) visits Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday.

CBA rolls

FOUR OAKS -- Charles B. Aycock pounded Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference newcomer South Johnston 9-0 on Thursday.

The Golden Falcons (5-0 overall, 2-0 ECC) play host to Eastern Wayne on Tuesday.

Eagles win

Wayne Christian turned back Greenfield 7-2 on Thursday afternoon at Herman Park.

Taylor Gray, Christopher Easom, Daniel Glover and Woody Sasser each collected singles wins for the Eagles.

The tandems of Gray-Easom, Glover-Sasser and Kenneth Giordano-Matthew Thompson were victorious in doubles play for Wayne Christian.

The Eagles face Wayne Country Day on Monday at Wayne Community College.

Rams prevail

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central defeated Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe SouthWest Edgecombe 6-3 on Thursday.

Eric Simmons, Colby Chase, Dylan Smith, Hunter Thigpen, Ian Whitson and Josh Recore were all winners in singles play for the Rams (3-3 overall, 3-0 EPC).

SouthWest claimed all three doubles matches.

Rosewood prevails

Rosewood rolled past Wayne Country Day 8-1 on Thursday at Wayne Community College.

Cole Radcliff, Travis Cuddington, Matt Binda, Antonio Henriques, Zach Behrend and Daniel Elawar each provided singles wins for the Eagles.

The doubles teams of Binda-Henriques and Jamez Henriquez-Nathan Kornegay were also victorious for the Eagles.

Rosewood (3-0 overall) travels to Southern Wayne on Monday.

Soccer

Falcons soar

PIKEVILLE -- Jessica Price scored twice and Charles B. Aycock picked up a 5-0 non-conference victory over Princeton on Thursday.

Tara Simmons opened the scoring in the 12th minute and Price extended the lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute.

Elvia Rodriguez's goal in the 54th minute stretched the margin to 3-0. Madison Mercer scored five minutes later and Price capped the scoring in the 64th minute.

Courtney Sheeks recorded four saves for the Golden Falcons.

Aycock (3-2-1 overall) faces Calvary Baptist at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Wilson in The Brittany.

Track

Cougars split

AYDEN -- Goldsboro's boys' and girls' track teams split a dual-team meet at Ayden-Grifton on Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars' boys compiled 85 points to finish ahead of the Chargers' score of 51.

Andre Montgomery (shot put), Vontarius Kornegay (100 meters) and Karon Alston (200 meters) each qualified for regional competition with first-place finishes.

Corteiz Sprangle also finished first for Goldsboro in the 300-meter hurdles. Tarius Birdsong (400 meters), Davon Deshields (800 meters) and Bryan Johnson (1,600 meters, 3,200 meters) also had first-place finishes.

The Cougars' 3,200, 800 and 400- meter relay teams were also victorious.

Goldsboro's girls were outscored 112-27 by Ayden-Grifton.

Jade Dansler (800 meters) and Makayla Huf (1,600 meters, 3,200 meters) were the Cougars' lone first-place finishers.

JV sports

* Soccer: C.B. Aycock 6, Princeton 0 -- The Golden Falcons (2-1 overall) visit North Lenoir on Monday.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Cape Fear Christian 4, Wayne Christian 2 (8 inn.) -- Hunter Burt, Bryce Norman, Tanner Rose, Cameron Foss, Jake Riffle, Trey Hinton each had singles for Wayne Christian. The Eagles visit Myrtle Grove Christian today.

* Soccer: Greenwood 6, Grantham 0 -- Cheyenne Craft scored three goals for Greenwood. Monica Mack, Cameron Foster and Kaylah James also provided goals. Greenwood (3-1-0 overall) visits Norwayne on Monday.
