Wayne Christian netters topple Trinity-Raleigh

RALEIGH -- Wayne Christian swept through singles play en route to a 9-0 win over Carolina Christian 1-A foe Trinity of Raleigh on Monday afternoon.
Taylor Gray led the Eagles with a decisive win at No. 1 singles. Christopher Easom, Daniel Glover, Woody Sasser, Kenneth Giordano and Matthew Thompson also prevailed during singles action.
The tandems of Gray-Easom, Glover-Sasser and Giordano-Thompson each earned a point in doubles action.
Wayne Christian will play host to perennial power house Greenfield on Thursday.
Eagles top Saints
Rosewood opened its varsity tennis season with a 5-4 victory over Southern Wayne on Monday.
Matt Binda, Zach Behrend and Daniel Alawar each prevailed in their respective singles match for the Eagles. The duos of Cole Radcliff-Travis Cuddington and Behrend-Alawar each earned a crucial point in doubles play.
Rosewood (1-0 overall) entertains North Lenoir on Wednesday.
Softball
Eagles' McCullom homers
Seventh-grader Rachel McCollum belted her first-ever varsity home run, and claimed the pitching victory in a 12-4, non-conference decision over Fayetteville Academy on Monday afternoon.
McCullom swatted her home run, a 230-foot shot, in the third inning. In the circle, she scattered five hits and logged six strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
Sarah McCollum doubled in a 3-for-3 effort, while Reagan Hinton doubled twice in two at-bats.
The Eagles (2-0 overall) entertain Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Friday afternoon.
Baseball
Rosewood wins
BEAUFORT -- Rosewood picked up a non-conference road win with a 4-2 triumph over East Carteret on Monday afternoon.
Cody Harris struck out seven batters for the Eagles as he earned the mound win.
Rosewood (3-2 overall) plays host to C.B. Aycock on Friday.
Faith prevails
Faith Christian earned its second win of the season with a 9-3 victory over Falls Road Christian on Monday.
Michael Clark delivered two hits for the Conquerors and tallied two runs batted in. Matt Lambert earned the win on the pitcher's mound.
Faith Christian (2-0 overall) plays host to Trinity Christian today.
Middle schools
* Baseball: Grace Christian 12, Wayne Christian 2 -- Bryce Norman led the Eagles at the plate with a double. Trey Hinton, Cameron Foss, Brandon Price and Tanner Rose each added one hit apiece in the loss.
* Soccer: Eastern Wayne 3, Greenwood 1 -- Megan Mozingo scored two goals for Eastern Wayne. Davis Houtzer added one hit in the victory. Kaylah James tallied the lone goal for Greenwood (2-1 overall).
* Softball: Princeton 11, Clayton 0 -- Charley Cox led the victors with three hits. Katelyn Edwards, Tori Paul and Logane Pace each added two hits respectively. Savanna Massengill earned the win in the pitcher's circle and tallied 14 strikeouts.
