SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Cory Smith tallied a hat trick (three goals) in the first half as Rosewood cruised to a 5-0, non-conference victory over Midway on Wednesday night.

Holly Heath added one gal and two assists in the win. Kailey Adams also tallied one goal. Rachyle McAlduff, Francesca Verceles-Zara and Chelsea Sasser recorded one assist apiece.

Taylor Johnson logged 15 saves in the Eagles' net.

Rosewood (3-0 overall) entertains Charles B. Aycock tonight at 7 p.m.

Baseball

Hawks win

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir earned its first win of the baseball season with an 8-6 triumph over Greene Central on Wednesday afternoon.

John Delaney was solid on the mound and earned the victory.

Wes Sowers paced Greene Central at the plate with two hits and two runs batted in.

Greene Central (2-1 overall) will host C.B. Aycock on Friday, while North Lenoir (1-3) entertains archrival South Lenoir.

Warriors fall

WILSON -- A rally in the bottom of the seventh led to the game-winning run as Wilson Hunt bested Eastern Wayne 6-5 on Wednesday night.

Colton Fulghum, Greg Simms and Zach Beachum each collected two hits for the Warriors.

Josh Frederick took the mound loss.

Eastern Wayne (1-2 overall) travels to New Hanover on Friday.

Faith rolls

Michael Clark belted a two-run home run that ignited an offensive explosion for Faith Christian in a 20-0 victory over Cornerstone Christian on Wednesday afternoon.

Matt Lambert registered the win on the mound for the Conquerors.

Faith Christian (1-0 overall) entertains Liberty of Durham on Friday.

Softball

CBA escapes

KENLY -- C.B. Aycock rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh inning, and defeated North Johnston 7-6 on Wednesday evening.

Autumn Pittman led the Golden Falcons' offense with three hits and three RBI. Connor Davis added three hits and one RBI. Misty Edwards finished with two hits and two runs scored.

Ashley Shingleton earned the win in the pitcher's circle.

C.B. Aycock (3-0 overall) plays host to Greene Central on Friday.

Saints stumble

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne only recorded one hit in a 10-0, non-conference loss to South Lenoir on Wednesday afternoon at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.

Taylor Parker was the only Saint to deliver a base knock.

Southern Wayne (0-3 overall) visits Wilson Hunt on Friday.

Hawks cruise

SNOW HILL -- North Lenoir avenged an earlier loss to Greene Central with a 9-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Kayla Letchworth delivered a double in the victory. Ashley Dowdy also recorded a double. Aaryn Deal struck out eight Rams en route to the pitching win.

North Lenoir (3-1 overall) is the guest of archrival South Lenoir on Friday.

Tennis

Falcons dominate

WILSON --C.B. Aycock dominated Wilson Fike 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Blake Vail, Addison Westbrook, Will Hoff, Brad Wilson, Kareem Alawar and Austin Walker each won their respective singles match.

The tandems of Dylan Quinn-Hoff, Vail-Westbrook and Wilson-Alawar each prevailed in doubles play.

C.B. Aycock (3-0) entertains East Duplin today.

JV sports

* Baseball: Eastern Wayne 6, Wilson Hunt 4 -- Justin Lee earned the win on the mound for the Warriors. Jake May tallied the save and belted two hits for Eastern Wayne. Wes Capps delivered the big blow for the victors with a two-run home run. Eastern Wayne will host New Hanover on Friday.

* Baseball: East Duplin 11, Southern Wayne 3 -- Matt Sparks (two RBI) and Taylor Raynor had two hits apiece for the Saints. Southern Wayne fell to 2-1 overall.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Cape Fear Christian 8, Wayne Christian 5 -- Wayne Christian rallied for four runs in the top of the fifth inning but could not complete the comeback. Hunter Burt led the Eagles' offense with two hits. Cameron Foss added a double and Bryce Norman finished 1-for-1.
