Bell guides CBA past Hunt

PIKEVILLE -- Brooke Bell not only led by example in the pitcher's circle, she did it at the plate as well.

Bell went 4 for 4 with three RBI and tossed a complete game in Charles B. Aycock's 13-0, non-conference win in five innings over Wilson Hunt on Tuesday evening.

Bell worked out of trouble in the top of the first inning when the Warriors loaded the bases with just one out. Bell got Hunt's Courtney Farmer to line into a double play to end the threat.

The Golden Falcons got on the board in the home half of the first as Bell and Connor Davis both scored on an error. Cara Frederick added a two-run double and she later scored on an error to give Aycock a 5-0 lead.

Bell tacked on an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning and Misty Edwards scored on an error extending the margin to 7-0. Autumn Pittman provided an RBI single to give the Golden Falcons an 8-0 advantage.

"We came out aggressive and we had a better approach tonight at the plate than we did in our last game," said Aycock head coach Brad Matthews.

Sarah Beth Marquis lined an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning and Bell's RBI double pushed the lead to 10-0.

Cassidy Anderson chipped in an infield single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bell supplied an RBI double and Courtney McGowan capped the scoring with an RBI infield single.

Ivy Hartzell and Pittman both collected two hits for the Golden Falcons. Davis, McGowan, Frederick, Marquis and Anderson all finished with a hit apiece.

Bell allowed just three hits to go with six strikeouts and two walks.

"Brooke hit her spots tonight and defensively I think we're OK," said Matthews. "Brooke knows that if she throws strikes and gets ahead, our defense is going to play behind her."

C.B. Aycock (2-0) visits North Johnston today.
