DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne continued its solid start to the 2010 varsity baseball season with a 10-0, non-conference victory over Wallace-Rose Hill on Monday afternoon.

Will Broadwell earned the win on the mound for the Saints. Broadwell threw a complete game and struck out six batters without allowing a walk. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Kevin Wise led the Saints at the plate with a two-hit effort that included a home run and a double. Cody Davis added a double and two RBI. Taylor Brock finished with two hits and two RBI.

Tyler Gainey cranked out two doubles in his three at-bats.

Southern Wayne (3-1 overall) travels to East Duplin today.

Soccer

Warriors cruise

Eastern Wayne blasted away from all angles in a 6-0 win over North Johnston on Monday afternoon.

Lindsay Underwood scored the team's first goal off a corner kick from Deborah Doran. Brandi Dean added the next three goals -- all in the first half.

Janielle Daniel buried a rebound shot early in the second half and Dean completed the scoring with her fourth goal of the game just two minutes later.

Eastern Wayne out shot North Johnston 30-3 on the night.

The Warriors (1-1-0 overall) travel to No. 11-ranked Wilson Hunt on Thursday.

Eagles down Hawks

LaGRANGE -- Rosewood got its offense on track early and never looked back in a 3-1, non-conference win over North Lenoir on Monday.

Gabriel Cornman scored two unassisted goals in the first half to pace the Eagles' attack. Logan Bill added the third goal in the win. Corey Smith tallied an assist.

Rosewood (2-0-0 overall) visits Midway on Wednesday.

Tennis

Warriors roll

Eastern Wayne claimed five singles points and went on to defeat Wilson Hunt 8-1 on Monday afternoon in New Hope.

Aaron Dunmire, Mike Barnette, Joseph DiCesare, Mike Ames and Marvin Bowman Jr. each claimed a singles point for the Warriors.

The duos of Chaz Fitzpatrick-Barnette, Carson Daly-Ames and DiCesare-Bowman each prevailed in doubles play.

Eastern Wayne (3-0 overall) travels to Rocky Mount today.

Softball

Hawks handle Gators

LaGRANGE -- North Lenoir earned an 11-1, non-conference victory over visiting Spring Creek on Monday.

Aaryn Deal tossed a complete game in the pitcher's circle and earned the win. Deal allowed two hits and struck out eight batters.

Amber Best paced the Hawks at the plate with a two-hit performance.

North Lenoir (3-1 overall) travels to Greene Central on Wednesday.

Warriors falter

MOREHEAD CITY -- Eastern Wayne never found its offensive footing in a 6-0, non-conference loss against West Carteret on Monday.

The Warriors tallied just three hits -- one each from Diamond Parks, Jessica Ream and Carissa Turner.

Lani Fricks suffered the loss in the pitcher's circle.

Eastern Wayne (1-1 overall) entertains Greene Central today.

Saints fall

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne could not hold off a late rally by Wallace-Rose Hill in a 7-3, non-conference defeat on Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the final two innings to steal the victory.

Taylor Parker led the Saints at the plate with two hits and an RBI. Brittany Pate added a base hit and one RBI in the defeat.

Madison Davis took a no decision after tossing five innings and allowing two runs. Parker was handed the loss in the pitcher's circle.

Southern Wayne (0-2 overall) plays host to South Lenoir today.

JV sports

* Girls' soccer: Eastern Wayne 5, North Johnston 0 -- Anne Hulse recorded four goals as Eastern Wayne defeated North Johnston. Estephanie Ponce added one goal for the Warriors.

Middle schools

* Girls' soccer: Greenwood 7, Spring Creek 0 -- Cheyenne Craft, Monica Mack and Kaylah Jones each tallied two goals for Greenwood. Samantha Maiette added one goal in the win. Torii Vang finished with two assists on the day. Greenwood (1-0-0 overall) entertains Rosewood today.
