CHARLOTTE -- Queens University grabbed a double-digit lead in the early minutes, and rolled past Mount Olive College 72-48 in their Conference Carolinas women's basketball contest Wednesday evening.
Senior forward Helen Moore led the Trojans with 15 points. Meaghan Vanderhorst chipped in 13. Alyssa Luebs pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while Moore and Laporsha Davis added six boards apiece.
The teams ended the night deadlocked in a four-way tie for third place in the league with Belmont Abbey and defending champion Anderson (S.C.) University. The Trojans (15-11 overall, 14-7 CC) swept the regular-season series against Belmont Abbey, got swept by Queens and split with Limestone and Anderson.
In one of the closest conference races ever, Mount Olive could finish as high as second or as low as seventh with just one game remaining before the conference tournament. The Trojans conclude regular-season play at home Saturday against Converse (S.C.) College.
Tip-off is 2 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.
Mount Olive (15-11 overall, 14-7 CC) trailed by 19 points when Moore scored three straight field goals in a 6-1 run, which pulled the Trojans within 61-47 late in the second half.
Queens (15-11, 14-7) scored the next eight points to end any comeback efforts.
