Mount Olive basketball teams roll past Lees-McRae

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mike Holloman celebrated senior night with a career-high 32 points and Mount Olive College cruised past Lees-McRae 86-69 on the Conference Carolinas men's basketball scene Saturday evening.

Kendrick Easley pumped in 20 of his 24 points in the second half as the Trojans avoided the Bobcats' upset bid. Easley and Holloman, along with Jon Brinson and Justin Foskey, were honored prior to the game. Easley and Holloman were recognized for career-scoring milestones this season -- Easley for 2,000 points and Holloman for 1,000 points.

Mount Olive (21-5 overall, 18-1 CC) led by six at halftime.

Holloman scored the Trojans' first seven points of the second half to help extend the margin. Easley's 3-pointer with 14:24 boosted the MOC advantage to 53-38.

Holloman reached the 30-point mark with a layup off Easley's assist with 3:40 to go. He added a game-high nine rebounds for the Trojans, who are ranked No. 2 in the latest Southeast Region poll.

Derek Staton dished out five assists.

MOUNT OLIVE -- Helen Moore recorded her first-ever, collegiate triple-double and tied the single-game school record for steals as Mount Olive College throttled Lees-McRae 68-48 on Saturday evening.

Moore finished with 19 points, 11 steals and 10 rebounds in the Conference Carolinas basketball affair. The feat occurred exactly 14 years and one day after Stephanie McCovery recorded the only triple-double in school history against Belmont Abbey on Feb. 19, 1996.

The Trojans (15-10 overall, 14-6 CC) secured its ninth victory in its last 11 outings this season.

Mount Olive led 54-32 with about nine minutes left in the second half. Lees-McRae went on a 9-0 run, but the Trojans responded with five free throws and Andrea Jones' 3-pointer to make 62-41.

The Bobcats never threatened again.

Jones shared game-high scoring honors with Moore with 19 points. Brittany Miller contributed 15 points, while Laporsha Davis chipped 11 points. Shequanta McGee dished out a career-best 11 assists.
