MISENHEIMER -- Derek Staton staged a career performance, Kendrick Easley continued his assault on the Mount Olive College record books and Mike Holloman watched from the bench Monday evening.

Staton pumped in a career-best 25 points, including a 15 of 16 effort at the free throw line, as the Trojans out-gunned Conference Carolinas rival Pfeiffer University 136-128 in overtime. Easley, who fouled out in regulation, surpassed the 2,100-point plateau for his career with a 38-point output against the Falcons.

Holloman sat out due to an injury.

Mount Olive (20-5 overall, 17-1) clinched its sixth 20-win season in the past seven years and protected its No. 4 ranking in the latest Division II Southeast Region poll.

The teams entered overtime tied 114-114 and traded leads until Craig Hayes scored underneath the basket to put the Trojans ahead to stay. Lamonte Theus' floating shot extended the advantage and the remainder of MOC's points came from the free throw line.

The Trojans finished 48 of 62 from the charity stripe, while the Falcons shot 38 of 51. The teams combined to attempt 158 field goals and each had four players to foul out of the game.

Hayes finished with 22 points. Teammates Brandon Allen and Mahamed Ibrahim chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively.

MISENHEIMER -- Mount Olive closed the game with a 12-2 run and eased past Pfeiffer University 66-60 in their Conference Carolinas women's basketball game Monday evening.

The backcourt tandem of Shequanta McGee and Laporsha Davis tallied 17 and 18 points, respectively, as the Trojans picked up their eighth victory in their last 10 outings.

Andrea Jones' 3-pointer and McGee's driving layup with 2:51 left in regulation put Mount Olive ahead 59-58. Jones followed with a fast-break layup on Davis' assist, and Helen Moore sank 4 of 4 free throws to push the Trojans' advantage to 65-58.

Pfeiffer managed just two field goals during an 11-minute stretch of the second half. The Falcons scored their final points on Dominique China's layup with 18 seconds left in the game.

Moore concluded the night with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Jones recorded nine points, while McGee snared six rebounds.
