Kaitlyn Kosuda's putback with 15 seconds left lifted Wayne Christian's girls past Carolina Christian 1-A Conference rival Cresset Christian 48-45 on Saturday.
Hanna Kaler led the Eagles with 20 points, 20 rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Kaitlyn Kosuda provided 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Kayla Kennedy chipped in eight points, four rebounds and four assists.
Wayne Christian (10-6 overall, 8-2 CCC) visits Northwood Temple on Friday.
Boys' basketball
Chargers toppled
Dre Gentry scored 25 points to lead Flora MacDonald to a 74-56 win at Wayne Country Day on Saturday.
Luke Cothron added 22 points.
Reco McCarter paced the Chargers with 19 points and Tim Hobbs finished with 11.
Wayne Country Day entertains Upper Room tonight.
Swimming
Chargers fare well
NEW BERN -- Wayne Country Day's boys finished second overall in the season-ending Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference swim championships contested this weekend.
Junior Thomas Elmore and sophomore Ravi Chittilla placed first and second, respectively, in the 50 free. The duo repeated the same finishes in the 500 free.
Walker Malphrus was the runner-up in the 100 free.
The girls' 200 free relay of Kennedy Dalton, Elizabeth Shappell, Ana Zbarcea and Charlotte Yarboro placed third. Zbarcea, who qualified for the state meet, ended up third in the 100 breaststroke.
Elmore, Chittilla and Malphrus also advanced to the state meet.
JV sports
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 49, Flora McDonald 17 -- Josiah Davis scored 16 points for the Chargers. Wayne Country Day travels to Oakwood on Tuesday.
