ROANOKE -- Rasean Brewington poured in 22 points and Goldsboro earned a 78-59 win over Roanoke in the Roanoke Invitational on Tuesday night.

Brewington was named the Invitational's Most Valuable Player. Demetrio Irby contributed 14 points for the Cougars and Devonte White had 12. James Williams added 10 points.

Irby and White were named to the All-Tournament team.

"I thought we were much more organized offensively tonight," said Goldsboro head coach Patrick Reynell. "We had some sparks off the bench and those guys forced a lot of turnovers. Our offense was really generated through our defense."

The Cougars (6-4) visit Southern Wayne on Jan. 6.

Chargers advance

CARY -- Wayne Country Day advanced to today's finals of the Cary Academy Invitational with a 63-52 win over Western Harnett on Tuesday.

Reco McCarter paced the Chargers with 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Tim Hobbs added 15 points and Rashid Williams provided 10 points.

Princeton stumbles

ROANOKE -- Princeton suffered a 60-50 loss to Edenton Holmes in the Roanoke Invitational on Tuesday.

David Gurganus scored a game-high 20 points for the Bulldogs and Andre Nixon finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Patrick Jacobs added 10 points.

Dorian Holly led Edenton with 17 points.

Princeton (5-6) visits the North Carolina School for the Deaf next Tuesday.

Rebels defeated

CALYPSO -- Union turned back North Duplin 68-30 on Tuesday night.

Marcus Kornegay led the Rebels with 11 points and James Kornegay added seven points.

North Duplin (0-9) visits Lejeune next Wednesday.

Girls' basketball

Aycock falls

KENLY -- Charles B. Aycock rallied from a seven-point deficit with less than seven minutes to play but came up short in a 55-52 loss to host North Johnston in the semifinals of the North/South Christmas Classic on Tuesday night.

The Golden Falcons trailed 23-9 at the half before pulling to within 33-31 at the end of the third quarter. Imari Howell's basket early in the final quarter tied the game at 33-33 before the Panthers used a 7-0 run in less than a minute to take a 40-33 lead.

Aycock had one final possession with less than five seconds to play at the end of the ballgame but couldn't get off a potential game-tying 3-pointer.

Howell led the Golden Falcons with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Dawgs caged

ROANOKE -- Edenton Holmes defeated Princeton 47-32 in the Roanoke Invitational on Tuesday night.

Tylan George finished with nine points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Nicole Melvin scored nine points and Maegan Myers had eight points.

ND loses

CALYPSO -- Union handed North Duplin a 57-23 setback on Tuesday night.

Tearra Ammons scored nine points for the Rebels and Angelica Favela had five points.

North Duplin (0-9) is the guest of Lejeune next Wednesday.
