Gators downed

KENLY -- Spring Creek let a late lead slip away as they fell to North Johnston 50-46 in the third place game of the annual North/South Christmas Classic.

The Gators led by as many as 11 points in the third quarter before a rally by the Panthers propelled them in the final eight minutes.

"I will take the blame tonight because you can't let a lead get away like that," Spring Creek head coach Taylor Jones said. "I thought we played three very good quarters of basketball and it just wasn't enough."

Kenneth Freeman led the Gators with 16 points. Melvin Deveaux added 10 points.

Spring Creek (5-5 overall) will travel to Princeton next Friday night for their Carolina 1-A Conference opener.
