Harris, Wicks finish unbeaten in day-long meet

EDENTON -- Corben Harris and Logan Wicks each logged unbeaten worksheets, and Eastern Wayne finished 2-2 during a five-team wrestling meet contested Saturday at John A. Holmes High School.
The Warriors started the day with a 63-9 loss to perennial power Pasquotank County. They snapped a seven-match skid with back-to-back triumphs over Manteo (42-30) and Holmes (32-27) before falling to Northeastern 51-30.
Harris (15-2 overall) posted a 4-0 mark that included a technical fall, pin and two forfeits. Wicks, in his first action of the season, picked up two decisions, a pin and a forfeit at 215 pounds.
James Barrett (171 pounds) pinned three opponents after beginning the day with a tough, 3-2 loss to Pasquotank's Alex Smith.
Eastern Wayne (3-8) also received individual victories from first-year grapplers Jasmine Doubt, Megan Lafave, Austin Helm, Byron Washington, Eric Lemmon and heavyweight Calvin Christian.
The Warriors return to action Jan. 5, 2010 at Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference newcomer Triton. Match time is 7 p.m.
