Rebels upended

CALYPSO -- North Duplin played a strong defensive game, but never found an offensive rhythm in a 39-34, non-conference loss to Lejeune on Friday evening.

After trailing by six points at the intermission, the Rebels opened the second half with a flurry. A driving layup by Tearra Ammons and a 3-pointer from Angelica Favela pulled the home team within four points at the end of the third quarter.

Two minutes into the final period, Lea Taylor delivered a putback and Favela buried another jumper from behind the arc to tie the contest. The Devilpups answered with six consecutive points to seal the victory.

"I thought our girls played really hard tonight," said first-year North Duplin head coach John Oliver. "I think we are getting better and if we can find one more shooter to fit into our offense, we can compete when conference play starts."

Favela paced the Rebels with 15 points. Ammons added 13 points, while Taylor finished with four points.

North Duplin (0-6 overall) is the guest of North Johnston on Monday.
