MOC women lose to Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, TENN. - Scoring runs at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half broke open a four-point game as Mount Olive fell to Lincoln Memorial 80-52 in non-conference women's basketball Saturday at Harrogate, Tenn. Brittany Miller led the Trojans with 12 points.
Mount Olive (1-3) led by as many as five points in the first half after Miller's short jumper gave the Trojans a 9-4 lead with 14:26 remaining. Lincoln Memorial (2-2) rallied to tie the game and Dayshalee Salaman's basket with 11:16 left in the half gave the Railsplitters their first lead at 14-12.
The first half saw three ties and six lead changes, but Lincoln Memorial took the lead for good with 7:15 remaining after Amberly O'Dell's three-pointer put the Railsplitters on top 21-19 and ignited an 8-1 run. Mount Olive was held without a field goal for more than three minutes until Miller's basket pulled the Trojans within 26-22.
Mount Olive was down only 30-26 with less than three minutes left in the half, but Lincoln Memorial ended the half on a 13-4 run. O'Dell's three-pointer at the buzzer extended the margin to 43-30 at the break.
Lincoln Memorial outscored Mount Olive 15-4 to start the second half to extend the margin to 55-34. The Trojans never got any closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Helen Moore pulled down 10 rebounds and recorded a game-high five steals for Mount Olive. Shaniqua Clay dished out four assists.
Salaman led all players with 22 points for Lincoln Memorial. O'Dell added 15 points.
The Mount Olive women's basketball team begins an extended break and will not resume play until after the completion of final exams. Mount Olive returns to action December 12 as the Trojans travel to Gaffney, S.C., to take on Limestone in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
