North Duplin stops Gators in Carolina Conference regular-season finale

CALYPSO -- North Duplin jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 42-14 win over Spring Creek at H.E. Grubbs Field on Friday night.

It was the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams.

Rebels quarterback Alan Schilling rushed for three touchdowns and also returned an interception 60 yards for a score. Devin Oliver added an 81-yard touchdown on the ground and took the game's opening kickoff back 83 yards for a score.

Oliver finished 135 yards on 15 carries.

Ryan Jones rushed for 140 yards and scored twice in the Gators' triple-option attack. Ricky Brayboy completed three passes for 45 yards. Chris Boseman (12 yards) and Melvin DeVeaux (33 yards) combined to haul in Brayboy's three receptions.

Playoff-bound North Duplin (4-7 overall) finished 2-3 in league play, while Spring Creek (1-10) concluded its conference schedule 0-5.

WARSAW -- Wallace-Rose Hill captured the inaugural Tri-County 1-A Conference title with a 13-7 victory over county archrival James Kenan at Bill Taylor Field.

The Bulldogs (9-2 overall, 7-0 TCC) snapped a four-game losing streak against the Tigers and claimed their first conference crown since 2005.

Devonta Herring put Wallace on the board with a 51-yard touchdown run on the Dogs' second offensive possession. Neither team managed to sustain any offense until Herring broke loose for a 52-yard touchdown romp early in the third quarter.

Herring finished with 130 yards rushing on 10 carries.

James Kenan (6-5, 4-3) benefited from a failed fake field-goal attempt in the third quarter. Working from midfield, the Tigers cashed in on Dasmine Smith's 2-yard drive.

Wallace limited Kenan to 135 yards of total offense.

Curtis Williams and Kyle Bostic paced the Tigers' defense with 13 and 12 tackles, respectively. Kendric Faison and Dontrill Hyman had eight stops apiece.

Farmville Central 21

Greene Central 20

SNOW HILL -- Farmville Central made the pivotal play at the pivotal moment and claimed a 21-20 victory over Eastern Plains 2-A Conference rival Greene Central.

The playoff-eligible Jaguars (6-5 overall) finished 3-3 in the EPC and dashed the Rams' hopes of a postseason berth. Greene Central (3-8, 1-5 EPC) has lost five games by a touchdown or less.

Trailing 20-14 with four minutes left, Farmville Central quarterback Marquell Bailey found Trevarus Norville for a 61-yard touchdown pass that gave the Jaguars a 21-20 advantage.

On the Rams' final possession, tailback Rashad Yelverton was stopped short on fourth-and-7, and the game went the way of the Jaguars. Yelverton led the Rams with 89 yards on nine carries.

Greene Central quarterback Brandon Suit tallied 50 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Jon Nethercut hauled in three catches for 34 yards.

Greene Central will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2000.
