Freddie Jones and Andre Montgomery each rushed for over 100 yards and scored two touchdowns as Goldsboro rolled past visiting Spring Creek 48-0 at Cougar Stadium on Friday evening.

The Cougars (8-2 overall) clinched a share of the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season championship. It's the program's second title in Eric Reid's three-year tenure as head coach.

Matthew Woodard opened Goldsboro's scoring with a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown less than 30 seconds into the ballgame. Cougars' quarterback Corteiz Sprangle connected with Demetrio Irby on a 37-yard scoring strike midway through the first quarter.

Sprangle tossed a second-quarter touchdown pass to Michael Sykes and Jones and Montgomery both added touchdown runs. The Cougars' backfield duo both found the end zone in the third quarter.

Jones finished with 185 yards on eight carries. Montgomery compiled 147 yards on 13 carries.

Spring Creek was paced by 15 yards on the ground from Ricky Brayboy. The Gators tallied just 30 yards of total offense.

Goldsboro (4-0 CC) concludes regular-season play Friday at 2008 Carolina champion Ayden-Grifton. Spring Creek (1-9, 0-4) entertains archrival North Duplin.

Hobbton 16

James Kenan 13

WARSAW -- In a conference that offers no reprieve, James Kenan finally fell victim to a Tri-County 1-A foe Friday evening. Hobbton kicked the game-winning field goal in a 16-13 overtime win at Bill Taylor Field.

The Wildcat defense came up big in the extra session.

James Kenan drove to the 1-yard line and set up a critical fourth-down play. Dasmine Smith took the ball and plunged toward the goal line, but came up short in a pile of Hobbton defenders.

The Wildcats took possession and drove the ball 15 yards to the 5-yard line and set up a potential game-winning kick. Brad Evans made good on the attempt and ended the Tigers' night in disappointment.

James Kenan was led by Victor Parker's 92-yard night on the ground. Quarterback Parker Jones finished with seven completions for 42 yards.

The Tigers (6-4 overall, 4-2 TCC) conclude regular-season play Friday at home against Duplin County archrival Wallace-Rose Hill.

North Duplin 42

Rosewood 15

CALYPSO -- Devin Oliver rushed for 244 yards and four touchdowns, and North Duplin overcame an early deficit in a 42-15 win over Carolina 1-A Conference opponent Rosewood on Friday night.

Ahkeem Simms' 47-yard touchdown reception from Taylor McGill gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.

Oliver found the end zone twice in the second quarter and Rebels' quarterback Alan Schilling scored on a 1-yard run. Oliver added two second-half touchdowns on runs of 49 and 5 yards.

Schilling also tacked on a touchdown run.

McGill connected with Will Beasley on a 15-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter. The Rosewood quarterback was 5-for-9 for 111 yards and was picked off twice.

The Eagles (3-7 overall, 1-3 CC) entertain archrival Princeton on Friday, while the Rebels (3-7, 1-3) are the guests of Spring Creek.

SouthWest Edgecombe 32

Greene Central 7

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central did its best to hang in there against No. 2-ranked and Eastern Plains 2-A champion SouthWest Edgecombe on Friday night. The Rams stayed close for one half, but eventually dropped a 32-7 decision.

Mike Baker opened the scoring for the Rams late in the first quarter on a five-yard run.

SouthWest (11-0 overall, 6-0 EPC) scored back-to-back touchdowns before the half and grabbed a 14-7 lead. In the second half, the Cougars controlled the pace and tallied 18 unanswered points.

Baker led the Rams with 94 yards on the ground. Rashad Yelverton added 48 yards on nine carries, while Brandon Suit tallied 133 yards through the air on just three completions.

Greene Central (3-7, 1-4) welcomes Farmville Central on Friday.

South Johnston 84

North Lenoir 6

LaGRANGE -- South Johnston quarterback Pat Dunigan threw for a career-high 454 yards and seven touchdowns in an 84-6 rout of Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival North Lenoir.

Dunigan tossed three touchdown passes in the first quarter and the Trojans (8-2 overall, 4-0 ECC) led 49-0 at the half. Dee Williams caught three of Dunigan's touchdown passes and had 217 yards on seven catches.

Maurice Morgan rushed for 49 yards on 18 carries and scored the Hawks' only touchdown early in the second quarter.

North Lenoir (2-8, 0-4) concludes regular-season play Friday at Eastern Wayne.
