SPIVEY'S CORNER -- James Kenan, for the second straight week, used a fourth-quarter rally to overcome a pesky Tri-County 1-A Conference opponent Friday evening.
Dasmine Smith tallied two fourth-quarter touchdowns in the Tigers' come-from-behind, 26-20 victory over Midway. It was a rematch of last year's second-round playoff contest won by the Raiders.
Trailing 20-10, Smith returned a kickoff 85 yards to paydirt. Following a successful onsides kick, Smith once again crossed the goal line -- this time from 24 yards out.
"We needed something big ... one play that could change the momentum," said James Kenan head coach Ken Avent Jr. "Dasmine broke that kick return and all of the sudden it was like the team looked up and got ready to finish the game."
Midway's bend-but-don't-break defense kept Kenan's offense in check most of the evening. The Tigers' Jose Bautista connected on a 40-yard field goal before halftime and Smith added a 4-yard, third-quarter touchdown run.
"We shot ourselves in the foot a few times in the first half with a couple turnovers," said Avent Jr. "After the half we did a better job of making the most of our possessions."
Victor Parker led the Tigers' ground game with 75 yards. Smith finished with 200 all-purpose yards -- 55 rushing, 15 receiving and 130 on special teams.
Defensively, Jon Miller and Kyle Bostic logged 15 stops apiece. Donald Johnson Jr. contributed 10 tackles.
James Kenan (6-3 overall, 4-1 TCC) entertains Hobbton on Friday evening.

AYDEN -- Ayden-Grifton reeled off 21 unanswered points and turned back upset-minded North Duplin 35-21 in Carolina 1-A Conference play Friday.
Rebels quarterback Alan Schilling scampered into the end zone with nine seconds left in the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14. On North Duplin's first possession of the second half, Schilling found the end zone for a second time and gave the visitors their first lead of the night.
The Chargers responded with three touchdowns, including two from Justin Whitaker.
Schilling paced North Duplin's offense with 51 yards rushing. Devin Oliver added 49 yards on 14 carries, while James Kornegay hauled in four receptions totalling 67 yards.
The Rebels (2-7 overall, 0-3 CC) entertain Rosewood on Friday.
