Eastern Wayne ... well ... Nick Baker unleashed a scoring barrage in an 8-1 victory over North Lenoir at Little Big Horn on Monday evening.

Baker recorded the hat trick-plus-one (four goals) and Vito Gomez added two goals for the Warriors in the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference men's soccer match. Ryan Allison and Leslie Cox provided one goal apiece.

Cox, Sang Kim and Kyle Sasser each collected one assist.

Hugo Garcia scored the Hawks' lone goal.

Eastern Wayne (6-6-1 overall, 3-2 ECC) entertains league co-leader South Johnston on Wednesday. North Lenoir visits four-time ECC champion Charles B. Aycock the same evening.

WCS tops Cape Fear

Wayne Christian scored four goals and defeated Cape Fear Christian 6-5 in a penalty-kick shootout on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles (13-5 overall) grabbed a 2-0 lead on goals from Chase Darden and Davis Taylor. Cape Fear answered with two second-half goals to force overtime.

After two scoreless 10-minute sessions, the teams needed PKs to decide the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference contest. Gregory Alexander, Jordan Crouthamel, Darden and Taylor each scored during the shootout to give Wayne Christian its 10th CCC win of the year.

The Eagles play host to Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Faith falls

DURHAM -- Faith Christian could not hold off the offense attack of Liberty Christian in a 5-2 loss on Monday afternoon.

The Conquerors (4-7 overall) travel to Falls Road Christian in Rocky Mount today.

Volleyball

Eagles prevail

ROCKY MOUNT -- Rosewood used a potent offensive attack to down Rocky Mount Prep 25-8, 25-13, 25-18 in non-conference play on Monday.

Taylor Johnson paced the Eagles with 11 kills and eight service aces. Chelsea Sawkin and Alyssa Spell dished out 11 assists apiece in the straight-set win.

Brittany McGill tallied two digs.

Rosewood (9-7 overall) visits county rival Goldsboro today at 6 p.m.

WCS tops WCDS

Wayne Christian continued its hot play with a 25-12, 25-14, 23-25, 25-12 win over Wayne Country Day on Monday afternoon.

Brittney O'Hara led the Eagles with 10 kills. Kaitlyn Kosuda and Jessica Swets each added seven kills in the victory. Hanna Kaler notched 25 assists, while teammate Criss Brogneaux tallied 11 digs.

Wayne Christian (18-5 overall) entertains Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Golf

C.B. Aycock wins

Charles B. Aycock standout Tara Simmons carded a two-under par 34 to lead the Golden Falcons as they maintained their perfect record in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference golf matches this season.

Jesse Stewart (55) and Jordyn Howell (59) rounded out the Golden Falcons' team score of 148. Eastern Wayne carded a three-player total of 157 to claim second place, while Southern Wayne tallied a 161 to finish third.

The teams will conclude regular season play Oct. 13 at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Club.

JV sports

* Soccer: Cape Fear d. Wayne Christian 3-1 -- Tyler Mozingo scored the Eagles' lone goal in the second half. Each of Cape Fear's goals was scored by Kenneth Gilliam.

* Soccer: Eastern Wayne tie North Lenoir 4-4 -- Tyler Mulenthaler scored twice for the Warriors. Rene Aguilar and Jae Kim each added one goal. Eastern Wayne improved to 5-1-4 overall.

* Volleyball: Wayne Christian d. Wayne Country Day 25-15, 25-17 -- The Eagles will play host to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Thursday.

Middle schools

* Volleyball: Rosewood d. Spring Creek 20-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-18 -- Rosewood improved to 7-1 overall. The Eagles travel to Dillard on Thursday.

* Volleyball: Norwayne d. Eastern Wayne 17-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-23 -- The Cobras scored 17 points with Cierra Harris on serve. Norwayne (6-1 overall) will host Spring Creek on Monday.

* Soccer: Spring Creek d. Rosewood 12-0 -- Alonso Pineda scored twice for the Gators. Jesus Briones added a goal and an assist in the win. Mark Sanchez added an assist. Spring Creek (6-0 overall) travels to Brogden on Thursday.
