RALEIGH -- The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has corrected an error in the annual hunting and trapping regulations that had mistakenly identified which counties have a fox trapping season.

Pamlico, Jones, Sampson, Randolph and Wayne counties were listed as trapping counties by mistake. Those locations do not have a fox trapping season in 2009.

The only legal way to take a fox in Wayne County is during the hunting season which runs from Nov. 28, 2009 through Jan. 1, 2010.

Foxes can be taken with either a firearm or with a bow and arrow during that season, but any foxes killed may not be sold for profit. The daily limit is two fox per day and the season limit is 10 per year.

Another trapping change will allow fur takers to use certain Conibear-style traps in water to trap beavers. Trappers may use Conibear traps that have an inside jaw-spread between 7.5 and 26 inches in width and12 inches in height.

The traps may also be used for trapping otters. The traps must be totally covered by water in order to be lawful within the state guidelines.

Beaver trapping is open statewide from Nov. 1 through March 31, 2010.
