MERRY HILL -- Denzel Russell and Stoan Stewart collected two goals apiece as the state-ranked Wayne Country Day boys' soccer team throttled Lawrence Academy 10-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Chargers also received goals from Hil Tanner (two assists), Ryan Jackson, Tyson Pearson, Tanner Pate, Trent Proimos and Blake Marchese. Cameron Ford dished out two assists.
Ranked No. 3 in the latest NCISAA 1-A poll, Wayne Country Day (9-3-1 overall) entertains The Epiphany School on Friday. Kickoff is 4:30 p.m.

Simmons shoots 77
WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Tara Simmons won a match of scorecards to earn medalist honors at the Willow Springs Invitational contested Wednesday at Willow Springs Country Club.
Simmons carded an 18-hole round of 77 and finished tied with Topsail's Mary Catherine Donovan for first place. Simmons' par of the most-difficult handicap hole led to her being declared the winner.
Lauren Larison fired a 100 and Jesse Stewart a 110 to round out the Golden Falcons' team score of 287. Topsail won the team competition with a new tournament record of 246.
Aycock returns to action Monday at Southern Wayne Country Club.

WCDS wins
Wayne Country Day prevailed 5-4 in a non-conference tennis match over the Eastern Wayne junior varsity team on Wednesday.
Sarah Best, Mack Thompson, Katherine Roethling and Monica Beushaugen each earned a singles point for the Chargers. The duo of Best-Thompson earned the team's lone doubles point.
Wayne Country Day (3-5 overall) will travel to Southern Wayne today.
