Week 6 football wrap-up

PRINCETON -- Princeton's recent offensive woes continued in an 8-6 loss to visiting South Robeson on Friday night.

Benton Myers 4-yard touchdown run accounted for the Bulldogs' only points of the night.

Known for its potent offense most of the season, Princeton was held to 224 yards and didn't score after the first quarter. Quarterback David Gurganus was 13-for-30 through the air for 174 yards.

"Right now it's just a matter of making too many mistakes," said Bulldogs head coach Russell Williamson. "We're turning it over or we'll get something good to happen and we'll have a penalty."

South Robeson scored and converted a two-point conversion in the first quarter and also didn't score the remainder of the evening.

Princeton (4-2) begins Carolina 1-A Conference play at home against Spring Creek on Oct. 9.

James Kenan 27

Union 20

CLINTON -- James Owens Jr. hauled in a touchdown pass from Jonathan Webster early in the fourth quarter to break a 20-20 tie and James Kenan pulled out a 27-20 win at Union on Friday night.

Victor Parker's 4-yard touchdown run with less than six minutes to play in the first quarter gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

Union answered with a 1-yard score early in the first quarter before Kenan quarterback Dasmine Smith raced 65 yards for a touchdown.

The Vikings tied the game at 13-13 on a short touchdown run late in the first half but Smith connected with Owens Jr. on a touchdown pass just before the break.

Union tied the game at 20-20 on a 29-yard touchdown run in the third quarter before Owens Jr. caught the game-winning touchdown pass.

Smith led the Tigers' offense with 124 yards on nine carries and Parker added 94 yards on 14 carries.

Kenan (3-2) plays host to Pender next week.

North Lenoir 14

Pamlico 8

BAYBORO -- Trey Harris picked up a fumble and raced 41 yards into the end zone.

North Lenoir stole the momentum and eventually stole a 14-8 victory over Pamlico in non-conference football action on Friday night.

With his team trailing late in the third quarter Harris scooped up a fumble by Antonio Jones and secured the ball near midfield. A pair of blocks opened a lane to the end zone and sent the Hawks' sideline into a frenzy.

The Hawks were able to run the ball throughout the game behind a strong effort by Maurice Morgan, who finished with 91 yards including a 42-yard scoring scamper in the first quarter.

Pamlico took the lead in the second quarter when Travis King broke free for a 24-yard touchdown run. The score remained 8-7 until Harris' big play with four minutes to play.

North Lenoir (2-4 overall) will enoy a bye week before taking on Charles B. Aycock on Oct. 9.

North Duplin 35

Lejeune 6

CALYPSO -- Alan Schilling rushed for three touchdowns and North Duplin defeated Camp Lejune 35-6 on Friday night.

Schilling found the end zone twice on the ground in the first quarter and Julio Mora added a touchdown before halftime as the Rebels lead 21-6 at the break.

Schilling and Mora both tacked on touchdown runs in the second half. Mora paced the North Duplin offense with 147 yards on 13 carries. Devin Oliver contributed 77 yards on eight carries and Schilling had 64 yards.

The Rebels held Lejune to 82 yards of offense, including just 30 on the ground.

North Duplin (2-4) entertains Goldsboro on Oct. 9.

Wilson Fike 23

Eastern Wayne 14

WILSON -- The Golden Demons jumped in front early and feverishly held on for a 23-14 non-conference victory over Eastern Wayne on Friday night.

Devin Jackson hauled in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Antonio Lucas in the first quarter as the Bruins built a two touchdown lead. Lucas accounted for the Bruins' second score on the ground.

Eastern Wayne got on the board in the third quarter when Chris Andrews picked up a Golden Demon fumble and rolled two yards for a touchdown. Will White hauled in a touchdown pass from Jalen Barnes in the final minute but by that point the game was decided.

The Warriors tallied just 88 yards of offense in the game.

Eastern Wayne (0-6 overall) will be off this week before they host South Johnston on Oct. 9.
