WILSON -- Greenfield punched in three goals during a 10-minute span and upended Wayne Country Day 3-0 in a battle of state-ranked opponents on Friday evening.

Greenfield is the two-time defending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1-A state champion.

"The last sixty minutes, we played extremely well," said WCDS head coach Michael Taylor. "We competed hard, but just couldn't put anything in the back of the net."

Cody Neal had 10 saves for the Chargers.

Wayne Country Day (8-3-1 overall) entertains Waccamaw Academy on Monday.

Faith Christian prevails

Faith Christian earned a 2-0 Coastal Region 2-A win over visiting Cornerstone Christian on Friday.

Scoring details were not available.

The Conquerors (3-4 overall) entertain Bethel Academy on Monday afternoon.

Lane Tree LGA

WILSON -- Linda Watson emerged the low putts winner in first flight competition during an Eastern Ladies League tournament at Wilson Country Club.

Libby Newsome had second low net in second flight. In fourth flight play, Betty Jean Gurley and Eileen Henderson claimed first low gross and first low net, respectively.

Lou Ellen Flowers and Linda Hilburn recorded low putts and second low gross, respectively, in fifth flight. Barbara Hill captured second low gross in sixth flight action.

During weekly tournament play on the Lane Tree links, Watson emerged the game-of-the-week champion. Flowers took low net. Donna Adams and Watson shared low putts.

Walnut Creek LGA

WILSON -- Jewel Ivey seized second net in first flight play during an Eastern Ladies League tournament contested at Wilson Country Club.

Faye Franklin and Mary Morris had second gross and low putts, respectively, in second flight. In fourth flight, Charlotte Campbell recorded second net. Nancy Satterfield had first gross in fifth flight.

Betty Holloway and Dot Julian had first and second net, respectively, in sixth flight play.

Novella Zambelli was the play-of-the-day winner at River Landing. Ivey had low gross and Holloway had low net. Joyce Reynolds secured low putts for the field.

JV sports

* Volleyball: Faith Christian d. Cornerstone 25-22, 22-25, 25-19 -- Hannah Stocks logged two kills and one service ace. Sophomore Katie Wilson contributed eight kills and one ace. Sophomore Elizabethe Weeks provided 10 kills and four aces. The Conquerors (5-0 overall) entertain Bethel Christian on Monday.

Middle schools

* Football: Norwayne 32, Brogden 12 -- Larry Taybron rushed for one touchdown and caught a 45-yard scoring pass from Bobby Hampton. Tyrik Joyner contributed a 70-yard kickoff return for a TD, while Tazmont Groves added a TD. Joyner, Groves, Will Walters, Jonathan Lee and Battle Burnette emerged the Cobras' defensive leaders. Norwayne travels to Rosewood on Thursday.
