WILSON -- Eastern Wayne rallied from an early deficit and earned a 3-1, non-conference soccer win at Wilson Fike on Tuesday night.

Javon Garcia scored in the 15th minute to put the Demons in front 1-0.

The Warriors answered three minutes later when Sang Kim tied the game at 1-1 off an assist from Nick Baker. Baker found the back of the net off Kim's assist in the 35th minute.

Kim scored his second goal of the night off John Baker's assist in the 41st minute.

Eastern Wayne finished with an 9-8 advantage in shots on goal.

The Warriors (2-3-1 overall) entertain North Johnston tonight.

CBA wins big

PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock got on the board less than two minutes in and rolled to a 10-0 win over county rival Rosewood on Tuesday night.

Tyler Lynch got the Golden Falcons on the board 80 seconds in and Aycock led 6-0 at the half.

Juan Pina scored three times and Patrick Roosen added a pair of goals. Chase Thompson, Blake Vail, Jose Rodriguez and Ryan DeMartini also scored. The Golden Falcons outshot the Eagles 30-4.

Aycock (5-1-0 overall) plays host to Spring Creek today while Rosewood entertains Midway on Thursday.

Eagles blanked

ERWIN -- Wayne Christian suffered a 1-0 loss at Cape Fear Christian on Tuesday.

The Eagles (5-3-0 overall) entertain Trinity of Durham on Thursday.

Cougars go down

West Craven dealt Goldsboro a 12-0, non-conference loss on Tuesday.

The Cougars (0-5-0 overall) play host to Wayne Country Day today.

Volleyball

WCDS victorious

Wayne Country Day defeated Goldsboro 25-20, 25-16, 26-24 at Norvell T. Lee Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Natalya Dungee collected five kills and Yunely Lares chipped in three service aces for the Cougars.

Kim Martell led the Chargers with nine kills and six aces. Hannah Pearson provided eight kills and two aces. Sterling Coggins dished out nine assists to go along with two kills and four aces.

Edie Hooks (five assists), Caraleigh Mewborn (four kills), Brooke Neal (two digs) and Jessica Zhou (two aces) also contributed to the win.

Goldsboro (1-8 overall) visits Rocky Mount Prep on Thursday.

Wayne Country Day (3-2) travels to Waccamaw on Monday.

WCS stumbles

ERWIN -- Wayne Christian couldn't pull out the decisive set in a 23-25, 26-24, 26-13, 15-25, 16-14 loss at Carolina Christian 1-A Conference foe Cape Fear Christian on Tuesday.

Kaitlyn Kosuda led the way with 13 kills and three blocks. Crissi Brogneaux provided 15 digs and four service aces. Britney O'Hara had 10 digs, seven kills and four aces.

The Eagles (9-2 overall, 5-2 CCC) entertain Fayetteville Christian on Thursday.

Warriors fall

NEW BERN -- Eastern Wayne was dealt a 25-22, 25-19, 25-14 loss at New Bern on Tuesday.

Brittney McKinney contributed six service points and two kills and Amethyst McPhail added four service points and to kills.

The Warriors (2-7 overall) travel to Havelock today.

Faith falls short

After claiming the opening set Faith Christian, couldn't hold on in a 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-16 loss to Neuse Christian on Tuesday.

Christina Howell had nine assists, three aces and two kills for the Conquerors and Madison Caudle added four blocks, three kills and two assists. Elizabeth Weeks provided four kills and two aces.

Faith Christian (2-2 overall) visits Falls Road Christian on Monday.

Tennis

Aycock downs NL

LaGRANGE -- Charles B. Aycock lost just three games all afternoon and cruised to a 7-0, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference win at North Lenoir on Tuesday.

Ashley Howell, Hollie Baker, Abbey Strickland, Harlie Howard, Nicole Kessler and Katie Gurley were all singles winners for the Golden Falcons. The tandem of Howell-Strickland also prevailed in doubles play. The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches were not completed.

Aycock (4-5 overall, 1-0 ECC) plays host to Wilson Hunt today.

Eagles prevail

ERWIN -- Defending Carolina Christian 1-A Conference champion Wayne Christian eased past Cape Fear Christian 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

Brooke Barfield, Faith Sutton, Savannah Sutton, Samantha Reaves, Blake Govan and Taylor Willman each recorded singles victories for the Eagles.

The teams of Barfield-Savannah Sutton, Faith Sutton-Govan and Willman-Gina Govan were winners in doubles play.

Wayne Christian (6-0 overall) visits Wayne Country Day on Thursday.

Saints defeated

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne dropped its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference opener 6-3 to Triton on Tuesday.

Morgan Roberts, Jessica Best and Taylor Parker each earned singles wins for the Saints.

Southern Wayne (2-4 overall, 0-1 ECC) entertains Rosewood today.

Cross country

CBA places 2nd

ERWIN -- Charles B. Aycock girl's cross country team finished second in a tri-meet with Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foes Triton and North Lenoir on Tuesday.

Triton compiled a team score of 18 to place first, while the Golden Falcons earned a 39 ahead of North Lenoir's 79.

Triton's Laura Godwin, Dava Johnston, Adriana Rosado and Sunni Queips finished first through fourth, respectively. Aycock's Kendra Speight crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 26 minutes and 58 seconds.

The Golden Falcons' Jessica Kyer (27:08) and Caroline Schlaeppi (27:46), were sixth and seventh, respectively.

North Lenoir's Madison Heniz and Aycock's Elvia Rodriguez rounded out the top 10.

Jones finishes 1st

WILSON -- Wayne Christian's Connor Jones finished first in the boys' portion of a four-team meet at Wilson Christian on Tuesday.

The Eagles recorded a team score of 55 and were second behind Faith Christian of Rocky Mount (30 points). Wilmington Christian was third with 76 points ahead of Wilson Christian's 84.

Wayne Christian's Mark Sawyer (21:46) was the only other Eagles' runner in the top 10.

Jennifer Price was the top Wayne Christian runner with a time of 31:15 and an eighth-place finish. Kayla Kennedy (33:27) was 10th.

Wayne Christian's David Swets finished first with a time of 12:44 in a middle school meet and Thomas Donica (14:05) was second.

The Eagles host Trinity of Durham, Cresset Christian and Grace Christian on Friday at Waynesborough Park.

Warriors finish 2nd

FOUR OAKS -- South Johnston placed four runners in the top five on its way to winning the boys' portion of an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tri-meet on Tuesday.

The Trojans tallied a team score of 18 points, while Eastern Wayne was second with 46. Southern Wayne earned a 74.

South Johnston's Cirillo Perez (18 minutes, 16 seconds) and Patrick Worthington (18:32) crossed the finish line first and second, respectively.

The Warriors' Russell Turner was third with a time of 19:02. Eastern Wayne's Denzel Benjamin (21:58), Eric Lemmon (22:00) and Steven Brantley (22:16) were ninth, 10th and 11th respectively.

The Saints' Trevor Morgan ended up seventh in 21:40.

The Warriors earned a perfect score of 15 to win the girls' portion of the meet ahead of Southern Wayne's 41. South Johnston did not record a team score.

Eastern Wayne's Heather Black finished first in 28:15, ahead of teammate Madeline Edwards (28:51). Christy Interrante was third with a time of 30:46. Kristen Larson (30:57) and Ashley Jarrett (30:58) completed the top five.

JV sports

* Soccer: Eastern Wayne d. Wilson Fike 4-1-- Kyle Sasser scored twice for the Warriors and Blayne Lee and Tyler Muehlenthaler both added goals. Steven Taylor provided an assist. Eastern Wayne (2-1-2 overall) plays host to North Johnston at 5 p.m. today.

* Soccer: Cape Fear Christian d. Wayne Christian 3-1-- Kevin Wheeler scored the lone goal for the Eagles.

* Volleyball: Eastern Wayne d. New Bern 20-25, 25-21, 25-23 -- Erin Falcone recorded five digs and Stephanie Smith provided five service points and a kill for the Warriors. Eastern Wayne (4-5 overall) travels to Havelock today.

* Volleyball: Goldsboro d. Wayne Country Day 25-21, 20-25, 25-19 -- The Cougars (1-6 overall) picked up their first win of the season.

* Tennis: Eastern Wayne d. C.B. Aycock 5-4 -- Jenna Martin and Sydney Villareal were singles winners for the Warriors. The doubles teams of Lesley Wiggins-Brittney Scurlock, Maddie Doherty-Jenna Martin and Tikeyah Shaw-Villareal were also victorious for Eastern Wayne. Brittney Parrish, Tiffany Godwin, Caroline Bone and Erin Glass each prevailed in singles play for the Golden Falcons.
