MOC drops opener

MOUNT OLIVE -- Faye Corbett broke a scoreless tie in the 27th minute and No. 21-ranked UNC Pembroke posted a 2-0 shutout over Mount Olive College on the women's college soccer scene Thursday evening.
It was the season-opening match for both teams.
Trojans goalie Lyndsey McIntyre recorded seven saves, including a stop on a 10-yard shot in the first half. A returning starter, McIntyre and her teammates withstood four corner kicks during a two-minute span in the opening half.
The Braves' Britney Joiner added an insurance goal in the 77th minute.
Mount Olive (0-1-0 overall) entertains in-state rival Wingate University on Tuesday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
