Wayne South falls to North Lenoir

SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Lenoir benefited from extra outs and rolled to a 15-5 win over Wayne South in five innings on Tuesday night at Spring Creek High School.

North Lenoir pushed across four unearned runs on no hits and four Wayne South errors in the top of the second inning.

Wayne South cut the lead to 4-1 in the home half of the second when Tyler Gainey scored on a wild pitch.

North Lenoir erupted for six runs in the top of the third. A run-scoring wild pitch and a Wayne South error extended the margin to 6-1.

Najea Jackson and Spencer Bass each added two-run singles to give North Lenoir a 10-1 advantage. Bass finished two-for-three with three RBI.

Taylor Brock's RBI single in the bottom of the third pulled Wayne South to within 10-2.

Two Wayne South errors, Zach Brown's base hit and a wild pitch led to five more North Lenoir runs in the top of the fourth.

Wayne South committed eight errors in the five inning affair while North Lenoir needed just four hits to score its 15 runs.

Jackson and Brown each collected a hit for North Lenoir.

Wayne South didn't go quietly and scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Duane Gurganus contributed a two-run triple and later scored on Brock's RBI groundout.

Zach Grantham led Wayne South with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate. Brock, Gurganus, Gainey, and Corey Howell each added a hit.

John Delaney allowed two earned runs on four hits to go with three strikeouts and two walks over four innings of work to earn the win on the mound for North Lenoir.
