Winless in seven outings this season, Rosewood finally scratched in the "W" column on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles claimed their first men's tennis victory, 7-2, at the expense of Carolina 1-A Conference and county archrival Spring Creek.

Jonathan Rudolph, Cole Radcliff, Antonio Henriquez, Matt Binda and Zach Behrend each picked up a singles point for Rosewood.

The duos of Henriquez-Binda and James Henriquez-Behrend emerged victorious in doubles action.

Rosewood (1-7 overall, 1-1 CC) entertains North Johnston on Wednesday.

Cougars victorious

Goldsboro High School earned a 9-0 decision over the Goldsboro Parks and Recreation Department on the John Allen Farfour Courts at Herman Park on Monday afternoon.

Spencer Howell, Bernard Green, Nathan Wright, Chuck Stanley, Paul Beldon and Jason Horne accounted for a sweep in singles action. Teammates Peyton Garland and Elijah Slater each prevailed in their respective exhibition singles match.

The duos of Howell-Green, Beldon-Horne and Wright-Stanley each triumphed in doubles.

Rams fall

GREENVILLE -- J.H. Rose captured six singles matches and turned back Greene Central 7-2 on Monday afternoon.

Eric Simmons picked up the Rams' lone win in singles action. The tandem of Colby Chase-Andrew Harrison earned a point in doubles play.

"Even though we lost, I am pleased with our performance today," said Greene Central head coach Brad Sauls. "We played really well in singles, but Rose was too tough in the third-set tiebreakers."

Greene Central (10-2 overall) entertains league rival Tarboro today.

Baseball

Aycock cruises

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock ended a three-game skid in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play with a 13-4 decision over Wilson Beddingfield on Monday.

The Golden Falcons used a nine-run, sixth-inning uprising to silence the Bruins.

"This was a big win ... trying to get things back on track," said C.B. Aycock head coach Charles Davis. "We left nine runners on base in the first five innings, but we finally exploded in the sixth."

UNC Wilmington signee Will Edgerton homered and finished the day with two hits. Adron Hollowell and Tyler Farmer also went "yard" for Aycock, which evened its ECC worksheet at 3-3 this season.

Nicholas McGee, Jonathan Taylor and Jeff Carmel each added two hits.

Eric DuBose tossed six solid innings for the mound win. He permitted four hits and posted five strikeouts.

The Golden Falcons (9-4 overall) return to Wilson this afternoon for a game at Ralph L. Fike High School. First pitch is 5 p.m.

Softball

Warriors cruise

TRENTON -- Lani Fricks and Morgan Smith combined for a one-hitter in the pitcher's circle as Eastern Wayne blasted Jones Senior 15-2 in five innings on Monday afternoon.

Fricks pitched three innings and struck out six batters to earn the win.

Jessica Ream led the Warriors with two hits and two runs scored. Casey Mitchell and Caitlin Turner contributed two hits apiece in the win.

Eastern Wayne (7-7 overall) returns to action April 16 against Spring Creek.

JV sports

* Wayne Christian 10, Faith of Rocky Mount 7 -- Wayne Christian's Gregory Johnson earned the win on the mound by pitching 1 2/3 innings of solid releif. Chase Darden and Josh Burdett led the Eagles (5-0 overall) at the plate with three hits apiece. Johnson, Chandler Harrell and Jackson Hayes each addded two hits in the win.
