LAURINBURG -- Mount Olive grabbed a one-run lead after 11/2 innings against St. Andrews on Thursday afternoon, but rain-ladened storms eventually washed out the Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader.
A make-up date has not been announced.
The Trojans (17-16-1 overall) collected four first-inning runs.
Morgan Whaley drew a bases-loaded RBI walk to start the uprising. Robbin Kennedy stroked an RBI single and Allison Czerski delivered a two-out, two-RBI single.
The Knights (14-19) answered with a four-run rally.
Kelly Minshew's second-inning, RBI single gave Mount Olive a 5-4 lead.
While Trojan hurler Anna Turvin warmed up in the circle, the umpires talked with the coaches and halted play. Thirty minutes later, after viewing a second storm system approaching on radar, the game was called.
If the two-game series is rescheduled, the teams will start from scratch.
Mount Olive is scheduled to entertain Anderson (S.C.) University on Saturday and in-state foe Chowan University on Sunday for Senior Day. It will be the next-to-last home contest for five Trojan seniors -- Turvin, Whaley, Kat Cahoon, Jenny Jackson and Karen Thornton.
