SNOW HILL -- Greene Central cruised to an 8-1 victory over North Lenoir on the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference boys' tennis scene Wednesday afternoon.

Eric Simmons, Colby Chase, Jason Perry, Hunter Thigpen and Dillon Lee each notched a singles point for the Rams. The tandems of Simmons-Chase, Thigpen-Lee and Andrew Harrison-Perry swept the three doubles matches.

"Our level of play was much higher today than the first time we matched up against North Lenoir," said Rams head coach Brad Sauls. "We were aggressive and consistent."

The Hawks' lone point came from Greg Goodson in singles.

Greene Central (10-1 overall, 5-0 EPC) travels to Farmville Central today.

Gators sunk

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Ayden-Grifton swept the doubles matches and turned back Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Daniel Richter, Douglas Boltinhouse and Justin Lewis each won their respective singles matches for the Gators.

Spring Creek (0-3, 0-2 CC) travels to archrival Rosewood on Monday.

Golf

Gators second

Spring Creek finished second in a Carolina 1-A Conference match at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.

The Gators compiled a team score of 336, while North Johnston captured first place with a 306. Rosewood was third at 377.

Graham Bennett led Spring Creek with an 18-hole round of 77. Teammate Blake Rousay fired an 81.

Saints find rough

MOUNT OLIVE -- South Johnston fired a team total of 333, good enough to best Southern Wayne's 348 total on the links at Southern Wayne Country Club on Wednesday.

Will Bunch led the Saints with a round of 85. Robert Herring and Chris Best each carded rounds of 86. John Graham added a 91 to round out Southern Wayne team score.

Jeremy McLamb fired a round of 79 to lead South Johnston.

Softball

SC prevails

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek notched its first victory of the season with a late-inning, 9-8 triumph over the Southern Wayne junior varsity team Tuesday evening.

Catcher Brittany Collier, who played with a fractured finger on her throwing hand, delivered the game-winning hit in the seventh inning. Teammates Katly Casey and Elizabeth Edwards pounded out two hits apiece for the Gators.

Edwards threw a complete game in the pitcher's circle.

Spring Creek launches its Carolina 1-A Conference schedule Friday at Ayden-Grifton.

Saints fall

KENLY -- Southern Wayne never got its offense going in a 5-0, non-conference loss at North Johnston on Wednesday.

Amber Weaver led the Panthers at the plate with a double and two RBI. Kayla Whitley added a home run.

Morgan Davis went 2-for-2 to lead the Saints. Kayla Gracyk, Christina Williams and Lauren Darden recorded one hit apiece.

Southern Wayne (7-3 overall, 2-1 ECC) entertains Eastern Wayne on Friday. First pitch is 7 p.m. on the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex diamond.

Rams cruise

BETHEL -- Shanna Parker cranked out two extra-base hits as Greene Central dumped North Pitt 8-3 in the Eastern Plains 2-A Conference opener for both teams.

Parker finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBI. Teammate Ashley Page contributed three hits and two RBI in four at-bats.

Jessica Moore claimed the mound win. She threw a complete-game, five-hitter and struck out 10 Panther batters.

Greene Central (5-5 overall, 1-0 EPC) entertains Goldsboro on Friday.

Track

Cougars third

SNOW HILL -- Tyquan Sprangle captured the high jump and Andre Montgomery won the shot put as Goldsboro finished third in a four-team, non-conference track meet contested at Greene Central.

Enrique Moses captured second place in the 100-meter dash and Devonte White earned second place in the discus.

Charles B. Aycock finished first in the team standings with 86 points. Greene Central (68) edged Goldsboro (62) for second. Results were not available for the Golden Falcon participants.

The Cougars return to Greene Central next Tuesday for an Eastern Plains 2-A Conference meet.

Soccer

Warriors prevail

KINSTON -- Eastern Wayne delivered a 3-0 shutout win over Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Kinston on Tuesday night.

Grace Russo scored two goals for the Warriors. Danielle Daniel added the victors' final score.

Eastern Wayne out-shot Kinston 18-1 on the night and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Warriors (3-3-2 overall, 3-2-0 ECC) are the guests of county rival Southern Wayne on Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 12, Southern Wayne 9 -- Bryant Stafford batted 2-for-3 with a team-high six RBI as the Golden Falcons rallied from a four-run deficit after three innings against the Saints. Cameron Taylor, Justin Barbour (four RBI) and Mick Walker (RBI) contributed two hits apiece. Collin DuBose doubled and scored twice. Cameron Taylor threw four innings of two-strikeout scoreless relief for the mound win. Aycock (9-1 overall) travels to Clayton today.
