LORETTO, Pa. -- The Mount Olive College men's volleyball team started its season-ending, eight-match road swing with a weekend split against Pennsylvania schools Lancaster Bible College and St. Francis University.
Senior outside hitter Pedro Penate pounded out 19 kills and recorded five blocks in the Trojans' 30-11, 30-17, 30-20 romp over Lancaster Bible. First-year libero Felix Reimundo provided 11 digs in the straight-set weep.
Mike Carroll and Christiaan Rombaut recorded five blocks apiece.
The Trojans concluded the weekend jaunt with a 22-30, 22-30, 33-31, 22-30 loss against St. Francis. Junior middle hitter Jose Lanier cranked out 13 kills on 14 attempts against the Red Flash, which competes in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
Penate and Reimundo paced the defense with 11 digs apiece.
Alex Hoekstra dished out 44 assists.
Mount Olive (10-5 overall) held a one-point lead in the opening set before St. Francis (10-8) seized control with a 10-3 run. The Red Flash claimed the second set, but couldn't complete the sweep when Lanier and Noel Garcia ended the third set on a double block.
St. Francis protected a six-point advantage throughout the fourth set to prevent Mount Olive from forcing a winner-take-all fifth set.
The Trojans return to action Friday at Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) and visit East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University on Saturday.
