WARSAW -- Dasmine Smith was thrust into the starting quarterback role before kickoff Friday evening against Hobbton.
Smith didn't disappoint.
The James Kenan standout rushed for two touchdowns as the No. 1-ranked and unbeaten Tigers crushed Hobbton 28-6 at Bill Taylor Field.
"Dasmine is a very good quarterback," said James Kenan head coach Ken Avent Jr.. "I thought we did a good job on offense, not turning the ball over and making some plays."
Smith completed four passes for 58 yards in spite of the rainy conditions.
After Hobbton seized an early 6-0 lead, the Tigers came alive.
"They punted and it hit one of our guys, and they recovered," said Avent Jr. "They punched it in, but our guys came right back and marched down the field for a touchdown."
Alex Monk opened the scoring for James Kenan with a 5-yard scamper on James Kenan's ensuing possession. Smith punched in a second score midway through the second quarter.
The second half was all Tigers.
Jamar Rogers reached the end zone on a seven yard run in the third quarter. Smith raced to paydirt to cap the scoring early in the fourth.
German Funez-Bonilla made all four PATs.
Josh Hicks led the Tigers' defense with seven stops. Alex Monk, Kyle Bostic and Dontrill Hyman recorded six tackles apiece. James Kenan picked off four Hobbton passes.
"We have to work on ourselves at this point," said Avent Jr. "We have to get ready for Union and the problems that they can present."
James Kenan (9-0 overall, 3-0 Super Six) continues league play Friday at Union. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
