Mote pounds out 18 kills in 3-0 sweep of Belmont Abbey

BELMONT -- Alicia Mote delivered a match-high 16 kills as Mount Olive College swept Belmont Abbey 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 in a Conference Carolinas volleyball match Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans improved to 13-14 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
On Friday, perennial regional power Lees-McRae captured a 10-25, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11 over Mount Olive.
Racey Bartley (12 kills) served eight aces for the second time in three matches and again, came within one ace of matching the school record. Corie Skislak notched her first collegiate double-double -- 10 kills, career-high 12 digs.
Mote posted her 11th double-double -- 15 kills, 13 digs -- of the season, while setter Joanie Werling handed out 40 assists. Defensively, Werling also recorded a career-best four blocks and Mallory Peavler collected 24 digs.
The Trojans finished with 13 aces.
Men's/women's soccer
BELMONT -- Goalkeeper Chris Slaughter stopped a 10-yard shot in overtime and Mount Olive College settled for a 0-0 draw against Conference Carolinas rival Belmont Abbey.
The Trojans claimed their third straight tie in league play.
Lyndsey McIntyre notched six saves, including three in the second half and overtime combined, in Mount Olive's 1-0 loss to Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon.
Cross country
BELMONT -- Rob Roderer and Melissa Moore each recorded a top-35 finish in the season-ending Conference Carolinas cross country championships contested Saturday morning.
Roderer completed the 5K course 23rd overall out of 81 runners and helped the Trojan men to a ninth-place finish.
Moore ended up 33rd out of 81 competitors as the Trojan women placed 10th out of 12 teams.
